People on his Facebook page are saying he won't play because meat is served at Riot Fest. That certainly can't be true.

One of the first things I thought of when I saw him on the bill...

Morrissey forced off stage at Coachella by smell of burning meat.

But yeah, nothing is confirmed yet. I'd say just about any announced Morrissey show these days has about a 37% chance of actually happening. So we'll see.

 

I was expecting that the moment he was announced. This is something he does.

 

The "as of this date" part makes me think there will he negotiations back and forth between the two sides. That should have been handled before he was officially announced. He's still an ass.

 

He has requested no meat before for a festival. I don't know if that included independent vendors or just what the festival hires and sells. I could see the same thing happening here honestly, although that's all speculation and would have been figured out in the deal to get him. The statement was so short and vague that I can't tell if it means he is working through a deal to play, was scheduled but is now canceling, or if he knew nothing about it. Bad day at the RF office.

 

He always says he won't play venues/festivals that serve meat, but the promoters never give in to this ridiculous request and he plays anyway. He played Firefly Fest last year and MSG last year and meat was served at both.

 

I wonder if it is related to the meat thing if he would request to play a stage that isn't located near the food area or request that meat won't be cooked during his set or something like that. He can't expect Riot Fest not to serve meat.

 

Or it could just be a PR thing so that everyone knows he doesn't eat meat.

 

I can't stand Morrissey as a person, and it prevents me from ever listening to his music.

 

That's how I feel.

 

Eh... I think Meat Is Murder took care of that.

 

But people like him never miss an opportunity to let people know how they feel about it.

 

Considering that it doesn't look like that website ever posted the announcement for Riot Fest, which his facebook and official site did, I am going to assume they are wrong and people are posting articles to get hits until something more official comes along saying otherwise. I mean considering every article I have seen has said something along the lines of "Morrisey denies he is playing Riot Fest" and "Morrisey says he isn't playing Riot Fest" but then give no quote or any information from Morrisey just link the unofficial site that gives no details, it seems like some pretty shoddy work by those writers.

 

Riot Fest just can't catch a break.

 

While I'm pretty positive he will bail just because that's his M.O (meat related or not he cancels shows pretty consistently), I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that nothing about this seems official, pitchfork was wrong about the YATCH thing and they probably jumped the gun on this too since he / his mgmt haven't said anything yet.

Either way I'm sure riot fest has some contingency plans based on his track record

Yep. Reminds me of when the Humboldt rumors started, although something one way or the other should be said more quickly about this than that issue.

 

being a long time fan of Morrissey, i was very surprised that he was playing the fest to begin with. i seriously doubt he is playing the fest and they just jumped the gun.

 

While I agree that I don't see him playing I would be surprised if they "jumped the gun" and announced somebody that wasn't under contract to play because that opens the door to a few lawsuits (Moz for claiming he was playing, pissed off fans for buying tickets based on him being there) and also because of the potential face saving they would have to deal with if he backed out.

That and the official morrissey Facebook announcing it makes this much less about Riot Fest jumping the gun than Moz backing out if this is true.

 

Agreed. Announcing someone before they are set in stone is a HUGE error to make with any artist. He would be one to have extra extra precaution taken with as well because he is so known for this. It's just not like RF to do something so unprofessional and reckless, but it is like him to be weird and cagey and drop out. I just hope it is for hype or something and ends up being that they renegotiate and he still plays. I have missed him due to cancellations before and it is the worst.

 

Based off his track record I am going to assume this is Morrissey's fault.

 

Considering it's posted on the official Facebook page that he's playing and it hasn't been taken down that this is all just rumors and there's no real basis to them yet.
