I finished up my Death Wish Coffee k-cups yesterday (I only had a 10 pack which I kept at work in case of afternoon emergencies!) and I was wondering how much it would take to actually kill me.

So I did a little research and I see that the lethal dose of caffeine is approximately 150 mg/kg of body weight.

I weigh approximately 110 kg so that means that I'd have to ingest roughly 16,500 mg (16.5 g) of caffeine to have a lethal effect.

Based on their site FAQ, Death Wish coffee contains 54.2 mg/fl. oz, so roughly 430 mg (.43 g) of caffeine per 8 oz cup.

I would have to drink 38 cups of coffee to experience a lethal outcome. That translates to 2.375 gallons.

Having said all of that, that ignores the fact that caffeine from the first cup of coffee (and the following ones) will be on its way out of my system by the time that I reach my 38th cup. I really haven't researched how fast caffeine exits the body.

Since it's called Death Wish I found myself a little curious!

I usually have a travel mug (right around 16 oz) in the morning and then a cup in the afternoon. On weekends at home I rarely have coffee in the afternoon though.

 

Coffee is gross.

Green tea all the way.
