This to me is waaaaaaaay more atmospheric and experimental than what BMTH went for, and yea a lot of people in this thread will probably say "lol this is experimental?" but like, yea it actually really is. Especially the back half. And it's just DARKER. As poppy as some might say this is, and with solid reasoning don't get me wrong, this record is dark and moody.

Hence why it's Underoath's take on the current post-hardcore sound. I would never put BMTH and experimental in the same sentence. They're a great example of a band playing it way too safe now.

The only song of BMTH I've ever listened to is Shadow Moses......because of Metal Gear.

It's too bad that Drown is the only good song on that BMTH album. That one's a clunker too

Really? I love that fake out ending.

I just don't think it's that simple but that's just for me personally.

Seems that I'll need to see this documentary from what I'm reading. Also good to see the turmoil that is Underoath is still alive and well.

Yeah, I'm usually all about those. For some reason it didn't work for me haha. Maybe I'll come around.

Yes...but a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts

reading their Facebook comments section made me realize that there are grown-ass men telling each other to "kill yourself" over differentiating musical opinions in 2018.

    yikes.

Deleted FB weeks ago and no regrets. Have group chats with friends and this site to keep up on music/movie news.

I feel like FB keeps the "highschool" in everyone, even into adult life lol.

Good god. I hate everything about social media. People can disagree over music in a civil manner.

See I think they took way more risks making an album like this rather than making another DTGL or LITSOS (not that there would have been anything wrong with that and I'm sure it would have been a great album, but it would have been way more safe to do that than this considering that's what their fanbase would have wanted)

also BMTH released a compilation album in November that looks, uh, familiar.

Yeah, I don't really understand how people are calling this "safe," when it's the most divisive album they have made. Playing it safe, like you stated, would be giving us another DTGL, LITSOS, or even Disambiguation, because that is what most of their old fans wanted.

Through another listen and I think it's absolutely fascinating how they did the tracklist to this album, Sink With You really being the perfect divide between the front half being more straightforward and the back half going real weird, right down TO that fake out end.

Honestly I think the best word to describe this album for me is fascinating

Is this the first Underoath album rollout you've seen? All of them are divisive.

No, I've anticipated all of their releases since DTGL, but in hindsight I can't see why anyone wouldn't like LITSOS or Disambiguation if you liked DTGL. This is easily their biggest departure from their "sound"

i'll always struggle to call making more accessible music safe. sure you can turn away a lot of old fans, but there are always way more people out there looking for pop than there are anything else. as much as i love this album its far and away their safest since TOCS.

Just finished my first listen. Just not a fan of this at all. I dislike the lyrics sooo much. I’m glad people like it though! Just isn’t for me!

Guess I’ll head over to Target for the bonus tracks after work. I know before they said they don’t have extra tracks because they write and record exactally the songs they will put on the album(or something). But that was an interview way back before they broke up. Haven’t listened to this beyond the first 3 tracks but I’m still on board.

I like the back half of the record waaaaaaaaaaay better than the first half. Still, this just isn't what I was hoping for overall.

I can't tell if I'm giving some of these songs extra credit because it's Underoath. In truth, there's several tracks that I definitely feel like I could hear playing at any given time on the local modern rock station in one of those deals where, I might not flip the station, because the song is pleasant enough, but I wouldn't go seek it out again later.

If I could just forget it

There are some really interesting moments on the back half of this. I don't have much to add to what's already been said, so I'll just say I'm optimistic for the next record and I hope they continue with the experimentation. Give me more stuff like No Frame and the outro to Sink With You.
