I mean every genre has good and bad artists (well I like Blake Shelton but that's not the point), and usually the most well known artists in any given genre are not the ones doing the most exciting things with it (with exceptions of course). I don't know why people react to it so much more strongly when it comes to country.

Yeah country is a strange beast that seems to invoke some pretty strong reactions. I think its just because it's so deeply rooted, with a ton of people who love it and also an equal amount who if you asked them what kind of music they like they'd say anything but country.

Yea i don't know it's just weird. I also find it strange how people like to say all country sounds the same and that's one of the reasons they don't like it, and then something like this comes out and people are like "Oh I like this though is it even a country album??" Like people will really bend over backwards to make sure they don't ever admit they might like a country album. (I'm not aiming this at you specifically or anything just in general this is what I notice)

This is definitely true. People also did this with Stapleton, Sturgill, Isbell, Maren Morris, etc. It happens every time one of these artists starts getting attention outside of the country community. Country purists do it too, but with them, it's more of a "rejecting what's popular" kind of thing.

Pretty much the moral that I hope people take from this album.

In reference to the conversation above, Esquire’s article they wrote for this album is titled “Kacey Musgraves Made The Years Best Country Album-Even If You Hate Country Music” lol.

Haha nah all good man, didn't think it was directed at me. I will freely admit to loving country, thanks in large part to Mr. @Craig Manning's efforts over the last couple years to get people into some of the amazing artists making country music these days. Anyway lets get back to talking about how great this album is. I didn't love "High Horse" on first listen but it's grown on me. And "Space Cowboy" will undoubtedly be one of my songs of the year.

GQ's headline was "Kacey Musgraves Made a Country Album So Gutsy, It's Not Really Country," which is even worse.

I always have a difficult relationship with country because as a youngin I associated country so much with where I live and I hate where i live lol. Like I took all my angst and animosity and directed it at country. Every year I would scoff at the rodeo and hate everything to do with country and western culture and it's inescapable here. I have always had a softer spot for the country ladies tho and don't mind them. I think the only male I've kinda given a chance to is Garth.

Yea definitely and then at a point it's like, ok this is like the 6th country album you like this year, maybe you actually do like country, even if you don't like all of it. People man I tell ya haha

Rainbow was written about me. Kacey is singing directly to me to cure me of depression and none of you can convince me otherwise.

I'm definitely more into female country singers, I think Tim McGraw is the only big male country singer I fuck with because he inspired a Taylor Swift song and is married to Faith Hill

The whole record is great, but yeah, that one is a pinnacle. People in this thread really need to hear it if they haven’t.
