The closer is the most emotional a song has made me in ages.

GOD I forgot how men are so self-assured in their opinions being universal truths that they will say "this is mediocre and bad" instead of "I don't like it" about subjects that are admittedly harmless

I think I'll need a bit of time with this album to decide if I like it better than Suburbia/TGG (I can't make out a favourite because they're such different moods/sounds to me).
NCTH was pretty immediate, I wanted to like it better so bad but it just never did it.
Plus there's the fact I never listen to it because of the mixing just plain hurting my head, but there's some of my favourite TWY songs in there (Don't Like Who, NCTH, Hemingway, and I've grown very fond of Palm Reader Alt version). But for this album I already know it's going to be a very strong contender for #1.

Yeah, I’m at the point where I’m pretty confident this will be my favorite in a month or so. I’ll always have a place for The Upsides, Suburbia, and TGG, but man this is such a clear step above those.

Like a lot of people, there’s 3-4 songs I really love off NCTH but the rest of it doesn’t do it for me/actively annoys me.

I have had a pretty complicated relationship with the band for the last 3-4 years. I don't remember listening to NCTH, but I recall shitting on the band a lot then hearing what the album was about and reading the lyrics. Even if you don't fuck with the music, it's a pretty powerful, personal album. I'm surprised at all the hate from people who probably like them a lot more than I do. Even being the asshole that I was, I remember speaking positively about the lyrical content of the album.

Idk where I stand with this band’s discography anymore. When Subrubia came out it was immensely important to me, I got into them during that cycle and that and The Upsides were always in rotation and were like defining albums for me as I was graduating high school. TGG came out and, to me, THAT album felt like a band that was taking half measures in terms of growth. There were moments I really loved on that record (There, There remains one of their best songs), but it loses me almost entirely in the back half. When NCTH came out I wasn’t expecting much from it but ended up really liking it and thinking it was their best yet, despite production issues, but I had a feeling they had better in them still. I haven’t re-visited their discography much at all since around NCTH came out and I’ve grown further and further away from their music.

That said, I think this is a really good album and probably their best yet. Not every song is totally resonating with me yet, and idk if they all will, but that’s p much entirely due to my tastes growing away from some of the characteristics of this music. It’s without a doubt chock full of very well-written songs and I’m impressed at some of the things they go for and manage to pull off. This was a band that, early in their career, I remember very clearly expressing that they would probably never evolve past pop punk. I’m glad that they ultimately decided to though.

This album is everything I've wanted this band to do.
I love how fun and light It Must Get Lonely is. How heavy Ghosts of Right Now sounds. How painful Flowers Where Your Face Should Be is. How anthemic The Ocean Grew Hands To Hold Me is.
    Truly blown away.

  21. Pretty sure the leak is full quality, at least for an mp3 (it's V0, but that's essentially 320kbps with reduced bit rate in the "less complex" sections).

Bit rate isn’t the only thing that matters, the software used to rip the cd and encode the mp3’s also has an effect. iTunes for example is notorious for making crappy mp3’s even at higher bit rates.
