  5. Both Sides of a Breakup: She Moved in, He Disappeared
    ELLA:
Just before turning 28, I suggested moving in with him. Philly was bringing me down, and I could figure it out work- and school-wise. My only concern was that Darren turned me off intellectually. Some things he said were really stupid; I actually wondered if he was illiterate or “slow.”I remember he didn’t know where Stockholm was. He also didn’t know what a symphony was. But I was mildly addicted to the sex, and I also liked our story: high schoolers reunited in the big city. I told myself: Some girls marry dopey guys — and it’s endearing in a “hot jock” or “Joey from Friends” kind of way.

    DARREN:
She thought she was all intellectual, but she lacked street smarts.I was excited for her to move in, though. It was still like I was tripping — having Ella from high school, naked, making us coffee. Crazy!

    ELLA:
I moved in. Things got rocky. We just didn’t mesh so well on day-to-day things like when to go to sleep and how to spend our free days. I’d have to get drunk to enjoy myself around him — a pattern in my dating habits. When I wasn’t fucking him, I kinda hated him.

    ... oh no

  10. Both Sides of a Breakup: Caught Cheating at Trader Joe’s
    NANCY:
Enter Charles. Charles was an old friend from law school who ended up working at my law firm, where we became very close friends. Ian was never worried about Charles for several reasons: First of all, Ian trusted me. Second, because Charles was my polar opposite. I am a liberal free-spirit from pothead hippies, and Charles was a seemingly asexual Wasp from old-money D.C.: a bow-tie-wearing Republican with freckles and a subscription to Guns and Horses, or whatever it’s called.

    IAN:
I liked Charles! I thought he was a real character.

    NANCY:
Around the time Ian proposed, I was working around the clock on a case with Charles. We had spent months talking about everything under the sun, ordering in Thai food, and just connecting in every possible way. One night, we almost kissed. We held back, but we were pressed up against the wall, kind of rubbing up on each other. My body was electrocuted. I realized that I was in love with Charles. I was madly freaking in love with Charles. I hadn’t cheated … yet. But I was sure of my feelings, and Charles had confessed to his.

    IAN:
I was clueless with a capital C. We were going to get married at the Cape, where we met. Our sex life was consistently good, Nancy was my future wife … it was ignorant bliss.

You know, the real culprit here is monogamy, a product of class society wherein one’s feelings mean ownership over them. Imo.

  21. Both Sides of a Breakup: She Called a Divorce Lawyer While 8 Months Pregnant

Anne: It was that thing where you’re always pissed at your boyfriend/husband. Like, I was always seething. And sometimes I didn’t even know why. I’d hang out with my girlfriends a lot, because it felt good to bitch about our men. It was like all this anger and annoyance toward him and I had to let it out. But I had to let it out on a daily basis, and that felt wrong to me. It’s normal to kinda hate on your husband … but I was hating on him all the time and, again, for no real reason. It was so hard to put my finger on the source of my anger.

Vincent: Look, I was new to marriage. And men don’t talk to each other. I assumed this is what it was like: Your wife is always pissed about something and you just … turn on the TV and try to forget about it.

This thread is still incredible and this is the best thing I've discovered in months; such blasphemy.

And it's time ... we've gone over 35k and it's time to take our discussion of other people's fucked up relationships to a new thread. And probably talk about some politics.
