i woke up at 3 and couldn't go back to sleep so i played for a couple of hours before work. already having a lot of fun with it. haven't punched a moose yet unfortunately

 

I'm so excited to buy FC5 today. Wish I wasn't at work until 10.

 

I bought Fable Anniversary. Might get Oblivion again because my copy is shit, might also get Dishonred DotO.

 

Far Cry 5: Review In Progress

 

Polygon gave it a 6.5 mostly because of the story.

Not surprised...Still wanna play it tho.

 

Well yeah now that the Far Cry nonsense takes places in America everyone is upset lmao

 

Lol Best Buy only had the deluxe and gold editions of the game so I just spent $70 fucking dollars on this deluxe bullshit

 

Yeah there's an irony in the scrutiny placed on it that wasn't there in previous entries. Far cry was never about the story tho it's about the formula and on that end it looks like it's massively improved - took what was good in 4 and primal and refined it.

 

"never about the story" is a terrible, awful, lazy way to pardon a game for being bad.

 

I have $25,000 now in fc5. More than enough to buy the most expensive stuff twice and I've not even done much of the game.

 

Have you played it?

I haven't called it bad or good, so I'm not commenting on the game itself, I'm commenting on the irony that people all of a sudden care when they didn't before.

I'm not pardoning it for being bad because I'm not calling it bad.

I've played three FC entries and they've all followed that route- light on story, heavy on atmosphere and gameplay. whether that's ok or not is another debate.

Other Ubi series, like AC and WD, are more direct about this stuff.

 

I think dumb doesn't necessarily equal bad, especially if story is only a means to an end. I also haven't played it.

 

There was absolutely scrutiny on previous entries, especially the third. That's why the protagonist in 4 had an origin in the locale.

 

These are still GAMES at the end of the day. A game can be good without a story on par with the classics. Game narratives often exist to serve gameplay not the reverse. I would also say a game can be good with a straight up bad story.

Yeah there was scrutiny to a certain extent but only now does it seem to actually tilt the review scores more heavily towards lower scores. Also it's coming from more people now.

I'm not even saying that people can't criticize it, I just think it's very obviously being scrutinized more because, *gasp*, Ubisoft had the audacity to let it take place in the US.

 

The lack of good story is one of the reasons I've never really got that into the Far Cry series

 

Sure - but I don't remember it being to this level, or affecting the discussion/reviews as much.

 

at the end of the day i'm very anxious and stressed, but y'all know i'm one of the most critical on here too. i play games to get away from it all. it helped me with my depression quite a bit. when games are problematic, i point it out. when games have something to say, i appreciate it. i've had these conversations on here before many times, and i'm getting tired of them :/ so if you've read my posts, you know me and what i think.

as for polygon, moving it down to a 6.5 simply because of the story, i find a bit silly. at best somewhere around 7-7.5 because literally all other aspects of the game, they had nothing but praise.

 

I noticed that too. I mean certain games I enjoy because of the story. Some games I enjoy because of both the story and game play. And some I enjoy because of just game play. FC has always been fun, which is why I enjoy it. I mean look at older Mario games too....you literally have to save the princess a bajillion times....but its still a blast.

 

Peach is worth it

 

I’ve been enjoying Far Cry for the 3ish hours I put in tonight. It’s pretty much same again but they’ve improved and refined certain areas of the game.

I can’t really comment on the story as I’ve only scratched the surface of that but I never buy Far Cry games for the story I buy them to have fun. Anyways it’s been a blast so far.

 

Xbox One X with FC5 for $410 and free shipping. Good deal. I'm considering it.

 

I finished Sunset Overdrive and the ending was just mehhhh.

 

Just started FC5. Liking it so far.
