Unfortunately this is an album that sounds best when it’s ruining your ear drums.

Unpopular opinion: I’m not a huge fan of the closer.

Edit: well yes I am a big fan of it I just don’t think it’s one of the best on the record or one of their best closers.

But I do really enjoy the F bomb. Impact is significant given it’s the only one.

    A couple quick thoughts on this band and what’s impressed me;

    - It was smart to say ‘hey...those are our songs not Brand New”, we are The Republic of Wolves and quickly put together His Old Branches
    - They were so smart to leave off all the ‘leaked songs’ off Varuna and let it be a new chapter for the band
    - Doing all the b-sides, alt versions, and radio performances really showed their versatility early
-with adding and losing a few members playing drums, the band kept up producing music. Then Gregg left, which for most bands would be a big deal, they didn’t miss a beat and people are aware everyone’s on good terms and always seems to have been
-This band has avoided controversy and been able to to just make music
-They’ve slipped in side projects that have been great and didn’t halt the Wolves as a result, plus they tend to work together even when its a side project.
-though I’m sure label support for those guys would have been nice, they seem like one of the few bands that’s never had an actual label issue
-they’ve had a direct line to fans
-great band, and any self production has been stellar. Even Mason’s YouTube songs sound great

    It reminds me of Northstar.

"Born Blind" reminds me so much of B**** N**.

Also love the callback to "The Canyon" in the closer.

But is it as good as The Canyon, the all time greatest album of all time ever?

Tough to beat but I think this album has done it.

In all seriousness they have really come into their own on this record. The production really elevates everything. The songwriting is very strong and the guitar tones, bass lines, great drumming and vocals are the best they have ever been imo. Special album we've got on our hands here.

I'm two pages behind, so not sure if this has been said yet, but one of my favorite parts of the album is The Canyon ending with "It's hard work having a soul," and then Bask immediately opening with "Let's get to work!"

They told me they'd love to come to Chicago when I said I hoped to have a chance to see them soon, but I didn't press for any details.

They don’t feel like typical b sides because the scattered through your the album and fit the production, sound and style of the record
