    You're Next is great.

  2. I like The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers. Didn't care for his segment in VHS and kinda hated The Sacrament. Ti West is hit or miss for me, but I'll always check out his stuff. Never had the urge to check out Cabin Fever 2.

House of the Devil is West's best work. The Innkeepers was good, albeit a tad boring/slow. The Sacrament was awful, a garbage found footage retelling of the Jonestown massacre.

Watched the first Purge today, yikes that was horrendous. Should I even bother with Anarchy?

The second is pretty terrible too, but Frank Grillo's storyline is actually solid.

I really enjoyed the 2nd one. I didn't care for the 1st one at all.

I thought Anarchy was much better than the first. Definitely worth a watch imo. The militant rebel group is annoyingly over the top, but that was really my only complaint about it.

I'm in love with the Mondo Tees Monster Squad vinyls. I want the whole bunch. Just wish I had the spare cash to get them all.

    I'm Back.

Checked out 10 Cloverfield Lane yesterday and I can honestly say I don't see what all the hype was about. With the exception of John Goodman, there wasn't anything that really stood out or made me want to watch again.

That ending, wtf? And not in a good way.

Yea, that ending was pretty polarizing around here. I don't think anyone actually liked it. It was either a strong dislike or a shoulder shrug. Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. I thought they at least made it logical that her character was capable of all that at the end. But the sudden shift to an all out action film was pretty jarring.

  13. I loved the ending of 10CL.

Watched a movie called Darling last night. Legitimately unnerving. Great performance from Lauren Ashley Carter. Recommended.

The biggest issue was that it was named after Cloverfied and most people would assume it's related in some way...even though there is literally no connection. Call it something different.

  15. I thought of it as an anthology. It was never marketed as a sequel or anything. I think the most JJ ever said was that it was like a "blood relative" to Cloverfield. This doesn't even really need to be spoiler tagged imo.

    I'm Back.

I honestly don't see how these two are related or even could be considered related. First of all, since this takes place AFTER Cloverfield, how is there no mention of it? You'd think that if shit hit the fan, AGAIN, the first thought would be "holy shit another creature came from the ocean". Especially since this takes place in a coastal state.

Cloverfield is about a big monster from the ocean where 10 Cloverfield Lane is about an alien invasion where nothing resembles that of Cloverfield. So I'm lost in how these could be related.
I feel like it was a cash grab from JJ in doing what he did.

  17. I can understand the frustration from people who were fans of the original expecting a connection. I guess I didn't have those expectations after hearing interviews on the press tour.

Cloverfield was a big success in regards to it's small budget, but it's not like it was a huge blockbuster. They didn't even advertise 10CL until a month before it came out. Most of my friends that I went to go see it with hadn't seen the original. Didn't feel like a cash grab at all to me.

I knew all the details about 10CL before watching it, so I wasn't surprised like those poor bastards who sat in theaters.

It doesn't take place in the same universe as Cloverfield. I think if they continue to use the name in this kinda loose anthology it could just come to represent a certain standard of quality and some tenuous similarities, like between these two they have the large scale attack in common.

Also it's been pretty much confirmed that 10CL was in the works as a completely separate film and was incorporated into to the Cloverfield name and the ending changed.

Regardless the acting was solid all around. I'd like to see Mary Elizabeth Winstead in more things. No complaints from me overall.

To my understanding, the script about being captive in an underground bunker during a supposed plague was greenlit before any mention of tying it to Cloverfield. They used the story and for marketing purposes, tied it into a seven year old movie. BTW, I did enjoy 10CL.

Yea, and why do that? There was another title for this movie when it was being developed, and it should have just stuck to that, IMO.

Any suggestions on what to watch tonight? Recently watched: The invitation, bite, green room, baskin, and hush. My girlfriend will not watch anything that is mostly jump scares or anything with clowns or creepy children.

Shit I actually need some stuff to watch also. I've seen most of the new shit but I need something weird or not so common.
