Do you know WHY people who knew choose not to do anything? Because protecting victims and letting them tell their own story is the most important thing

 

What are you talking about plenty of people who care about this have said they still listen to the band. I've already gotten offers from people who know about this and care about this too. Thanks for your input though dude (sincerely the discogs idea is good)

actively purchasing something new of the band seems a step beyond just listening to what you already had. Active pursual as opposed to just passively continuing to listen

If I can't sell them I'll probably do something like that by the time I start getting steady pay. I've just been unemployed for half a year and just started a new job and my paychecks for the next like two months are already going toward a lot of different things I'm behind on. Sigh. It's been a rough few months and I don't want the brand new vinyl at all and figured they would help my situation

 

I'd say everyone in the scene - everyone - knew to an extent. They had been told. Some people knew more than others, some people refused to listen, and I think a lot of people didn't know what they were SUPPOSED to do about it, because the victims weren't ready to come forwards. There are a lot more victims who still haven't come forwards either. I mostly don't really blame anyone for not saying anything all that time. it's a difficult situation and the victims need to be put first. Surprisingly for myself, I'll even give Kevin the benefit of the doubt, because he did insinuate he'd heard about one instance ; he probably talked to JL about it and, well, JL is a manipulator. It's still fucked up that probably all his friends knew vaguely and didn't try to know more but you know. That's just speculation from other similar situations I've observed. at that point I don't think it's worth discussing. We all know this scene is rotten. What's important is SOME of the victims got to a point where they felt safe enough to speak up and that's great. the problem is how they were treated after speaking up lol

 

i genuinely don't think this was so "known" about when it comes to actual actions. maybe that he creeped around a little bit, sure, that's sort of obvious based on context. but the actual extent of things? truly don't believe it

 

It was more of global hearsay that everybody more or less knew was true I think. I don't think a lot of people knew the actual specifics.

 

Probably none of my business, but if things are really this bad for you financially why are you paying to be a supporter on this site?

I never said it wasn’t. Kind of confused as to why you responded to my post with that. I was responding to someone who asked if we thought others knew. My point was, the likelihood of others at least having an inkling was high and then showed some examples in later posts.

That said, if someone did know, they absolutely could have done something to the extent of at least cutting ties or association with the band or Jesse instead of continuing to profit off them. They could have done that without getting into any details whatsoever or outing any victims.

The only people who it's fair to say knew something are the people like John and Brian and Anthony who hinted they did, none of whom have profited off brand new in the last 10-15 years. I think it's complete speculation to assume anyone else knew, speculation that helps no one and could potentially hurt people for no reason

 

And PayPal isn't real money!

Anyone who did know something and continued to support and profit off Jesse has to live with that guilt and I hope it eats them alive btw. Because I'm sure there are people who knew and brushed it off but it's not fair to speculate who without knowing for sure

 

That’s fair. But, as I pointed out, the same girl who commented on Brian’s FB page that started all this commented the same exact things on The Front Bottoms page in 2016...people chose to ignore it then.

And my point was, if John, Brian and Anthony hinted they knew and weren’t even around Jesse for 10-15 years, I’d have a hard time believing that someone who was around him quite a bit over the past 12 years wouldn’t have at least had an inkling. Perhaps that’s unfair, and I really do not want to believe that, but it’s my personal opinion, which can of course be wrong.

 

I mean people don't tend to talk shit on someone if friends of that person are around. Like I've known a lot of people in my life, sometimes I find things out about someone I liked way way way down the line because the info just never made its way to me. We're dealing with human beings here. They're fickle and arrogant but also ignorant and oblivious. I don't see any gain in speculating about who knew what when. Go after Jesse and his band and anyone actively defending them now. Attacking anyone because you think they might have known something maybe at some point isn't doing anyone any good

 

I think some people don't realize the lengths people go through to hide the horrible shit they do. How do you think it'd look if someone said to my parents "you had to have known your son was a drug addict" when I did everything I could to hide it from the world leaving them oblivious? Not the same exact thing but I'm just saying people hide their true selves and they do it well

 

Last point then I'm done, but I guarantee you any amount of money, the people close to Jesse who had no idea, are likely blaming themselves and thinking they should have known and probably feel guilt for not knowing sooner. The grieving process fans have gone through is nothing compared to what the people who know him have to deal with. Finding out someone you were close to is a horrible person isn't an easy thing to deal with

 

Not to mention that he was obviously very good at using his position in a huge band to manipulate people. Chances are he was using that same position to get smaller bands that looked up to him on his side.

Everyone got manipulated. Brand New are the bad guys.

 

I think back in 2015 some stuff came out I jesses circles.. maybe he admitted it to friends as part of therapy? It seemed like at that point he was at least trying, based on the videos of him talking about his past.

I think Kevin devine knew he did “stuff” but maybe not to the extent that it actually was.

I had a sense Manchester orchestra were distancing themselves from brand new for a while now.. whether there is any fact to that I cannot say, just a feeling.

Thrice... I just couldn’t believe that Dustin would know the extent of things and then tour with the band. Who knows, probably won’t ever know these answers.
