I don't like Cousins much either, but he is definitely better than Keenum

 

The question is less of “is he better” and a little more of “is he worth twice as much money”

Claiborne is the only CB I like to replace Colvin so far.

I would like Delvin Breaux but I ain't paying him starter money

 

Sure he’s better than Keenum but not by a lot - not fully guaranteed money better

Cousins has never impressed me - he loves to turn it over in big moments
So I’m good with this

 

Vikings have so much cap space that this contract really won't impact anything they would have done.

 

They're obviously after Baker Mayfield. They want that 5/8" to assert him as the alpha male in the passing game.

They can't keep their defense together. There's no way. Their receivers also just both blew up and are gonna want better money soon. Cousins gets hurt at all and they are fucked. They just guaranteed their window will close sooner when they could have kept it open and likely kept more key players with Keenum.

 

Cousins is good but he won't be the reason a team is good. He's as good as the team around him and they paid him so much that I don't think they can keep a dominant team around him.

 

A window in the NFL for most teams (Except Patriots) is like 2-3 years. I can't blame them for going for it. You go from SB contender to last place very quickly in this league.

 

Pretty sure you can pencil in Vikings @ Eagles for that kickoff game.

Why does that happen though?

Because when it's time to resign people, they paid a struggling QB way too much dead money that they can't get out of, so they lose other pillars of the roster.

Cap issues are what take good teams out of contention 9 times out of 10. Some teams just get really unlucky with injuries & retirement (49ers are a big example) but that's the exception not the norm. GUARANTEEING that much to any player takes a stable cap situation and makes it tenuous.

 

No one is replacing Colvin, he's probably the best in the league at his specific role. I just need some fucking bodies, man. We have NOTHING after Colvin.

Their window was closing. They can prioritize Hunter and Diggs, maybe even keep Kendricks and Floyd next year. They've been very good at drafting and their window is small. It makes sense to bet on yourself. It's not the best move by any means and I don't give Cousins that money. But he keeps them competing.

 

Sometimes you get old, sometimes you lose key players. Look at the Seahawks for example. Yes they had to pay Wilson, but I don't know that he was the reason for them falling apart.

I'm so glad I'm not a Jets fan today. Even the Browns get their QB.

 

Most of you guys laughed at me but I love the Bortles deal. We may never be good at passing the ball but it's very possible we stay strong on defense and in the trenches, and stay competitive.

While everyone else is paying 6 million - 10 million more AAV to QBs only a tier better than him

 

OMG. Bradford play like one game last year and is gonna make $20 million this upcoming season. Incredible.
