Its good but not great imo. Actually going to play it after. Havent heard it enough to have a strong opinion on it. Until it was posted to streaming services I had not heard it so need more time with it. But IR i've always thought is a top 3 Radiohead album. Easily for me at least.

Ok, it's time for me to fulfill another part of my contractual obligation with @JediMasterKevo182

Today I'll be listening to Breaking Benjamin's album Dark Before Dawn (which I've erroneously referred to as Dusk Before Dawn, which would be a better title btw).

This is Breaking Benjamin's fifth studio album and it was released in 2015. I've heard their first 4 albums, but I never got around to checking this one out. I'm pretty sure that I've heard a couple of the singles though. I've enjoyed Breaking Benjamin's past output to varying extents. I think the vocals are pretty strong and the songs are typically pretty catchy. They are definitely a "radio rock" band, but I think they've separated themselves from bands such as Nickelback, Buckcherry, Hinder, etc.

    Anyway, on to the album...

As I did for the Dead by Sunrise album yesterday, I'll be breaking this up into multiple parts. This album has 12 tracks, so I'll break it up into 2 posts where I provided a track-by-track review of 6 of the tracks in each post.

    Dark
Going into this track I see it's barely over two minutes in length, so I expect it to be an intro track. I'm not wrong. In the background, it sounds like a news report being read either on the radio or a television. There's some ominous music playing over it and some singing by lead singer Benjamin Burnley toward the end of the track. There aren't any words though, he's just kind of making sounds like "ooooooh". Anyway, this is fine for what it is - an intro track.

    Failure
The vocals definitely sound the same as the previous 4 albums, which certainly isn't unexpected. This certainly isn't a ballad, but it's not one of their heavier tracks either. The chorus is pretty catchy and the final chorus has some screaming in the background. I've heard this track before as it was their lead single from this album (and ended up peaking at #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart). Overall, this seems to be a solid choice for their first actual song on the record.

    Angels Fall
This is a little similar to Failure in that it's not a ballad, but not one of their heavier tracks either. The verses are a bit forgettable, but the chorus is catchy. I enjoyed this song's bridge too. The lyrics aren't terrible, but they really don't stand out much to be either. This song is fine, but I enjoyed Failure more. On a side note, I see that this song was released as a single and it also peaked at #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart.

    Breaking The Silence
Immediately I could tell that this would be one of the album's "heavy tracks". I put that it quotes because it's heavy for them, but it's not like it's Cannibal Corpse or anything. The music at the start at the track is pretty aggressive and there are some relatively harsh vocals in the chorus, which is quite a departure from the previous two tracks. I enjoyed this song as it was something different, but I don't think it was as catchy or memorable as Failure or Angels Fall.

    Hollow
Another mid-tempo song in the vein of Failure and Angels Fall. The vocals are solid here and the chorus is another catchy one. I could have seen this doing well on the radio (although I see it wasn't released as a single). It seemed like the instrumentation had a little more room to breath on this track as it was a little more in the forefront at the end of the song. I'd say this has probably been my favorite track so far.

    Close To Heaven
Another aggressive start to a song, not too dissimilar to Breaking The Silence. The rest of the song kind of followed the formula though of mid-tempo verse, catchy chorus, mid-tempo verse, catchy chorus, 30 or so seconds of guitar and drum with background screams, bridge, catchy chorus. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it sometimes makes the tracks a little bit difficult to distinguish from each other.

That's the first half of the album - stay tuned for my thoughts on the second half! To this point, I think it's a solid album, but on first listen none of the tracks have really jumped out to me as a key track.

Look forward to getting more familiar with it. Just happy i can listen to it on a more regular basis now.

I'm on Weird Fishes/Arpeggi and I actually think that song is in my top 5 of Radiohead songs. I was doing a discography run and was due to listen to Ok Computer next but went with IR. Just had the itch to listen to that one instead.

Might play some Novo Amor because I mentioned them in this thread since its short ep's.

The couple sitting in front of us also left from Ottawa and is also going to the Raptors game tonight. Pretty funny.
