Nofx's work bc they usually drop band names to put you in an 80s punk rock club right before you get hit with a pole and need stitches

Ah yes, somehow didn't catch that in his post at all haha. Only saw the I Want To Save You somehow. Definitely one of the best ones, IMO.

I'm actually stoked to hear the song where they reference Bad Religion. Bad Religion has always been one of my favorite bands and an early influence on blink. I don't think it is pandering or trying too hard to be nostalgic, I just think it is a nice nod on SoCal punk on an album called "California." Bring it on.

As far as reviews go, I don't put too much weight in them, and I actually write reviews for a newspaper.

    Things have changed.

"I pick up, put down the phone/Like your favorite Heatmiser song goes, 'It's just like being alone.'"

    Top JEW track for sure!

I dont get how referencing a band in song makes it bad what so ever. I'm just going to avoid all reviews, I don't want anything that feels like I should 2nd guess myself for liking this band, when I know I will like anything they put out (if that makes sense). Might even have to avoid this forum if it starts going negative

So most of the songs that all of the radio people were hearing must not be on this record if they are bringing up filler remarks to the point where Jason is tempering his expectations. It just seemed all press prior to BTD was how much Blink fans would enjoy this iteration of the band. And now it seems like a lot of folks are changing their tune. The joke songs are filler in nature, so I am not too concerned with those, but the other aspect of those comments does interest me.

Now it gets even spookier: the German name Otto can be read both ways.

"That 2003 self-titled record was a genuine statement that Blink could evolve and turn themselves into an important rock band and 2011’s Neighborhoods, while flawed, had some good stuff, maybe even a blueprint when you dusted it off. There’s absolutely no sign so far that California can recapture any of that"

It doesn't bother me or my expectations. Going off what I have heard I'm sure I'll like it if BTD is anything to go off of. Plus I've noticed with music and even films, 8/10 times I generally disagree with official critics(like a movie or song/album they hate). So I'll keep my expectations as is until the album drops

I am not saying my expectations are changing, but I am just sort of fascinated by the 180 that seems to be permeating through the media at this point.

That's s common thing I've noticed with critics. Movies for example. Remember BVS? Pre screening reviews raved over it...once it released not so much(side note I actually liked that movie to prove my point about usually disagreeing with critics lol)

No critics liked Batman v. Superman. It tested well at audience screenings but was critically panned from the jump.

The references to Hot Water Music and Bouncing Souls in Trio's "Warbrain" are my favorite references to other bands in a song. Between that, the Walk Among Us line in "We've Had Enough," and referencing Robert Smith on "One Last Dance," Skiba is good at referencing other artists in a way that doesn't sound corny.

Didn't brand new reference Morrisey in mix tape? I could be mistaken.

Also unrelated(kind of) but anyone else notice they took a line from the movie Dogma in Jaws Theme Swimming?(unless it's from something else and in just ignorant)
