    OK maybe i'm wrong,

I've heard like 4 ed sheeran songs.

I've been exposed by way too many NB songs so I may be the wrong person to ask. I've never heard a full album from either.

if that's the worst he's written, he's still got a long way to go to get to NB level of disgusting.

I don't think a band that's been nothing but successful, and still is, can make a comeback. I'll also put it out there for all to see, that they're not THAT terrible of a band, there are certainly worse in the genre. I think they are an absolutely fascinating example of how the internet can create opinions that aren't actually held. 88% of people surveyed, have no actual strong hateful opinion on Nickleback and 46% have never even listened to them, but 100% liked the pickle when prompted to.

My continued thoughts on Dead by Sunrise's album Out of Ashes:

    Condemned
Yeah, I definitely like this band more when they go the alternative rock route and stick with the faster songs. I'm definitely getting more of that Stone Temple Pilots vibe here and there's some more screaming here. It's kind of funny how there was practically no screaming for the first 6 tracks and then a good amount of it on tracks 7 and 8. It makes me think that perhaps this album should've been sequenced a bit differently.

    Into You
After the past two tracks, it was a near certainty that this song would be a slow one. I really do like Chester's soft singing voice. I like the background vocals too and the melodies are pleasant. I really am a bit surprised that a) I hadn't heard of this band before and that b) they didn't have more radio success. According to Wikipedia, they had one song that charted in the 20 of the Billboard rock charts (Crawl Back In), but I'm a bit surprised it wasn't more like 3 or 4 songs.

    End of the World
This song starts out with a little synth (similar to Let Down). This track is more or less mid-tempo. It's interesting musically and branches out a bit more than the other tracks have. A brief side note - this track has some lyrics that can be seen as a reference to suicide ("like the end of a gun pressed against your lips") and the song Condemned mentions suicide ("love me like a suicide come in"). I never listened to this album prior to Chester's death last July, but I'm sure these lyrics are seen and interpreted differently today than they would have been upon the release of this album in 2009.

    Walking In Circles
This is another longer track (just shy of 5 minutes) that veers into ballad territory. It might be my favorite of the ballads so far though. It's a pretty catchy track and I think the lyrics are pretty solid.

    In the Darkness
This is the final track on the album (not including the bonus track) and it's nearly 5 and a half minutes long. Just seeing that track length, my immediate thought is that it's another slow song/ballad and...I'm not wrong! It's a bit cliche to have the longest track on the album be the closing one, but I thought this one worked pretty well here. The acoustic guitar at the beginning of the track was a nice touch and the lyrics and vocals were really solid here (even if the song was a bit on the repetitive side).

    Morning After
This is the album's bonus track. I'm including my thoughts on it, because I don't want
@JediMasterKevo182 to use it as a loophole if I don't! If this track was on the regular version of the album, it's extremely unlikely that it would've been the closing track. It's definitely not a ballad and it falls somewhere in the alternative rock spectrum. I think this probably should've just been included on the album and placed somewhere in the middle of the ninth and twelfth tracks to change the pace a bit (album sequencing is really interesting to me). All in all, a solid track.

Final Thoughts - Overall, I enjoyed this album. There were definitely some spots that dragged a bit for me (the 9 or 10 minutes of tracks 5 and 6 and some spots in the final 4 tracks). My favorite tracks on first listen were Fire, Crawl Back In, My Suffering, and Condemned. I really didn't dislike any of the tracks, but some of the songs (especially the slower ones) seemed to blend together a bit. I would recommend this album to fans of Linkin Park.

Ok @JediMasterKevo182 I've completed a listen and track-by-track review of one of the albums that you gave me.

    Your move!!!

I just wish they cut down on the ballads a bit - maybe like 3 instead of 5 or 6.

Obviously that's just my personal preference :)

After listening to 8 of their records front to back with the lyrics in front of me, I can promise you they ARE that bad. Chad is misogynistic, disgusting, violent, and clearly very insecure in his lyrics and his voice sounds like an animal dying going through a woodchipper.

Long story short, they're not only AS bad as the "internet" makes people think, they are WORSE

All I'm saying is I think it's just a meme and a ritual to hate on Nickleback and nobody actually has that strong off an opinion of them one way or another (judged by their pretty stellar album sales, yet no one in the history of ever, will admit to buying an album of theirs). It's just kind of something one does on the internet, they say they hate Nickleback. I think it's a pretty fascinating social phenomenon and illustrative of the Internets power to influence and create opinions (or the illusion of an opinion). They've kind of become the layman's punchline and fledgling internet comedian's go to for describing something that sucks, without actually being that offensively bad. It's become the worlds most inclusive joke, everybody's in on it and at this point, nobody wants to admit that they just say it to say it and actually don't mind Nickleback. Somebody (and probably not just a rich asshole) purchased 50 million of their albums.

    Three Days Grace?

Are we talking old 3dg or new?

Old 3dg was 1000x better and no where near being grouped in with NB

That's fair, and I'd agree, lets says old Three Days Grace. Old 3DG is fairly reminiscent of CKY.

Also I am behind so I just learned this last summer, but the vocalist from Default is the country singer Dallas Smith

That's pretty much my point. I just find it fascinating that at some point they were chosen to be the punchline for shitty rock and it's stuck for so long, and is still relevant to this day. Yet they still sell albums and their shittier counterparts, remain free from the humiliation. I mean, you can't go a few days without an article hating on something that inevitably brings Nickleback into the conversation as a comparison to how shitty said thing is that's being complained about. It's less of defending them, and more about how did using them as that punchline spread like wildfire and become so ingrained in pop culture? Just something I've been musing on as of late, a sort of philosophy light.

And yes, I'm Chad Kroeger. Go pick on Matt Walst.
