Alright...the time has come for me to listen to (and post my thoughts on) one of the albums that @JediMasterKevo182 assigned to me as part of our contractual agreement.

The first album that I will be listening to (per Kevo's request) is Dead by Sunrise's album Out of Ashes.

This is Dead by Sunrise's first (and only) release and it came out in 2009. According to Wikipedia, they were a rock supergroup fronted by the late Chester Bennington (most known for his work in Linkin Park) along with members from Julien-K and Orgy.

    Here's the album cover:

There are 13 tracks on this album (including the bonus track) and rather than making 13 separate posts, I'll break it up to post about several tracks at a time.

    Let's get this started!

    Fire
This is a pretty solid opening track. Chester Bennington's vocals are immediately recognizable here. Had I not known this was Dead by Sunrise, I would have thought that this was a Linkin Park song. Obviously, there are no Mike Shinoda vocals here (since he's not in this band). It's a pretty solid, catchy alternative rock song though. Musically, it's not a drastic departure from Linkin Park. Lyrically, it's pretty heartfelt and something that I can see a lot of people connecting to.

    Crawl Back In
Musically, I thought this was a little more interesting than the first track. I got a little bit of a Stone Temple Pilots vibe from this song (another band that Chester was in for a period of time). The guitar solo was fun too. I didn't connect to any of the lyrics though. I'd say overall it's about on par with Fire. 2 tracks in and I'm enjoying this so far.

    Too Late
This is the first slow song/ballad on the album. The chorus is pretty catchy with the backing vocals. I like the lyrics on this one better than the previous track. It's alright, but a touch on the boring side if I'm being honest (and you do want me to be honest, don't you?). Chester's vocals are solid, and I imagine that most Linkin Park fans would enjoy this album a fair amount. I realize I still have 10 tracks to go, but I don't think it's too early to make that statement!

    Inside of Me
This is a short track (barely over 2 minutes long) that picks the energy back up. This song is the fastest and most aggressive song on the album so far. I'm familiar with some of Orgy's work (I've never listened to Julien-K) and I think that they're pretty talented musicians, so it's no surprise that I think that the music is pretty solid on this album as well. So far these 4 tracks have all been enjoyable to some extent. I don't think that it's anything groundbreaking necessarily, but they're not bad songs either.

    Let Down
I was surprised that they decided to go with a Radiohead cover here this song is not a Radiohead cover! This song starts off with a little bit of synth and it's more or a slow song, not too dissimilar from Too Late. The song is a bit repetitive, but it's also pretty catchy. I'm 5 tracks into the album and I can definitely see that this isn't identical to Chester from Linkin Park. Typically there are at least a few tracks on each Linkin Park album with screaming/aggressive vocals, but they've been absent from this album for the most part. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just an observation! I like this slower song quite a bit more than Too Late.

    Give Me Your Name
At nearly 5 minutes, this is the longest track on the album so far. It's another slow song. Chester has some falsetto vocals on this track that are done pretty well. This is a pretty subdued track and while I wouldn't consider it bad, it's probably not one that I would be quick to revisit (both due to it's length and it's musical style). I strongly suspect that the next track will pick the energy back up!

    My Suffering
I was right! This track features some Chester screaming and the music itself is interesting and unpredictable. I thought the drumming really stood out on this track too. So through 7 tracks, there have been 3 songs that I'd classify as slow songs/ballads, 2 songs that are solid alternative rock songs (Fire, Crawl Back In) and 2 songs that are a bit more aggressive/loud/faster (Inside of Me, My Suffering). I'll provide my final thoughts on the album once I'm finished, but at this point I'd say that this has been an enjoyable listen so far.

Coming up - My thoughts on the final 6 tracks on the album (I'm typing my thoughts as I listen) and my overall thoughts on the album!

    Did they?

The club isn't the best place to find a lover
So the bar is where I go
Me and my friends at the table doing shots
Drinking fast and then we talk slow
Come over and start up a conversation with just me
And trust me I'll give it a chance now
Take my hand, stop, put Van the Man on the jukebox
And then we start to dance, and now I'm singing like . . .

I'm in love with the shape of you
We push and pull like a magnet do
Although my heart is falling too
I'm in love with your body

    yes.

I would say that generally sheeran >> nickleback.

nickleback has albums of cringe lyrics and some down right disgusting lyrics on top of super lazy stupid stuff.

ed sheeran could not possibly measure up to that pile of terribleness.
