I'm pretty sure the only people who listened to blink when they were just called blink were the neighbors who had to hear them through the garage walls

I read that first article, shook my head repeatedly, and refuse to read the second.

    Hilariously stupid.

Is it too late for them to take those songs out? I want them to knock this out of the park

This would be a very poor decision.

  7. I've talked to multiple people now that have heard the album that say they're a notable blemish on a record that already feels too long and full of some filler. That's not a good sign.

How come? I'm not too educated on a band/label's side of an album release

@Jason Tate can we just go back to a few weeks ago to when we were super excited we were getting a record from the band haha

To each their own. Maybe I just don't take records as seriously as some, especially from punk rock bands, but I can't imagine ever being so vehemently against less than one minute of music on a record with 14 proper tracks that it cools my opinion of it as a whole. Just a very strange concept to me. Alas, to each their own, but the record will do just fine.

Nothing to do with that, I just say that it would be a very poor choice to allow a vocal minority to shape the direction of your album. Not a good look whatsoever. Release the product you want to release and pay no mind to the people who aren't in favor of it.

I'm really not surprised by those articles. I do prefer mature blink 100% and they are grown ass men.

Lol are people really breaking down the guitar riff of a 15 second joke song? It's as simple a guitar riff as it gets, I figured another band has used it. These two joke songs are apparently the most crucial 30 seconds of recorded music in history. I think blink HAS to release another song soon if people have THIS much time on their hands. Wow.

I do get sick of the "it's only 30 seconds" argument because while it is short, it messes the fuck out of album flow. I listen to 99% of my music as a full album experience and after the joke songs were released I'm worried this is just gonna be a collection of songs with no real narrative.

And it's not like blink have been critical darlings as far as reviews go their whole careers. This isn't really anything new lol. Like a couple snarky articles should affect anything.

And considering this album has a.) a producer, and b.) three band members that all want to be there, I'm already guaranteed to like this more than Neighborhoods, and I like that album. Lol I'd already take Bored To Death over any song on that album, and it's not even really close.

  16. They're paid to review albums and write about music. I think it's kinda not fair to act like that's them having too much time on their hands. And I would argue there is valid criticism to be had about their sequencing (and subject matter).

  17. I don't think that's the argument, I think the argument is that within those 14 there are more minutes of wasted space, and thus when added together the sum is less than it could be because of filler and sequencing issues. With 14 songs you've got to be careful about the time used.

I'll be curious to see how well it does all in all. There are very big bets on it. It's gonna need to open big and sustain, especially to pull off this tour. I hope it does. But I've been talking with some critics I respect that have heard it, and my expectations are definitely being tempered for now.

And, well, I know "Brohemian" is truly an awful ending to an album, regardless of it being from a punk band or not. The entire creation of my website was to give credence say (pop)punk music deserved respect. I think it does and it can be looked at with the same critical eye of every indie-darling.

It's not like I'm super crazy about them. I don't mind Built This Pool, I just think it was a flat out mistake to put them out there already, especially after how well Bored To Death was received (although one of those articles that I read shit all over that too so there was no pleasing them.) I guess it sucks if 30 seconds are bumming people out on the other 42 minutes of the album, but if I don't like them in the context of the album, I'll just axe them.

  19. I've heard there's a narrative to some degree, but when the band starts name dropping other bands it feels too self-referential. Too much like trying to reclaim 1999 in the way you see someone years after they graduated and they're wearing their football jersey.

  21. I don't think people really "buy music" because of them, but I think they help shape narratives. And, I think that if a 30 year old saw the publications they read shitting on a band from their youth they'd ignore the album. I had multiple people message me with "should I check out the new Blink music" when it was released. I do think that having positive press is better than negative press, I dunno how much it matters, but I have seen albums get "painted" as something and never gotten out from under it. Even great ones. The narrative that spun from +44, for example, I think sunk it. It got panned. AVA outsold it and I'd argue it's a better album and closer to Blink. I can think of quite a few others too.

I think two back to back joke songs after one regular song is a weird move for 40 year olds. I would have done the BTP thing and had it out there. But only once so you don't get two cycles of press over it (and this specific one has been pretty bad). I'd then wait and release the BTD actual music video. Then I'd release the second single. Then I'd release the fucking album.
