I think I'm in the minority that found the Always video to be pretty dull, but I loved I Miss You at the time. Thought it suited the song perfectly.

So I dunno if you all have heard, but there is a alternate/radio version of BTD that plays on the radio. It starts with the Chorus, goes into the first verse, and has a altered bridge. Some guy got a short clip of the beginning transition from Chorus to Verse 1: Dropbox - Video May 17, 4 40 25 PM.mov

  3. Hmm. I don't like it.

You can hear "woah oh" part starting at the end of the chorus, which sounds awkward when the verse begins.

I like music videos, but I won't die if we don't get one. I can take it or leave it, honestly I haven't really watched them since 2007 except on a rare occasion when I REALLY liked a song; but then it was only once of so and then done.

Eh I think blink's records have ALWAYS been polished to a level that they can't match live. And actually today I was listening to Natives and it could have been so much better with Feldmann's production and higher vocals for Mark in the chorus. And Mark's vocals stand out way more in a YouTube video than if you're actually there. Put Bored To Death on a mix cd with all my favorite blink songs and it pretty much stacks right up perfectly with all their older stuff.

Random thought: I LOVE Blink and have been listening to them since they were originally called Blink. However, I've never liked "The Rock Show" or "First Date." They're the only singles that I didn't like and it amazes me how popular both songs are.

Anyway, I just had to get that off my chest. If you feel similarly, please let me know I'm not alone.

Separately, upon my inquiry, the ex-bass player in my former band told me his favorite Blink song was "The Rock Show."

Because of his answer, I never looked at him the same way. I just couldn't let it go since there are countless songs that are superior to 'Rock Show.'

He was eventually replaced before we got signed. And even though I never forgot about that answer, that wasn't the determining factor in his firing.

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

Can't get over how bad he is live now, if he did a 10 year tour for WDNTW I wouldn't even think about going.

  11. When The Used announced the anniversary shows for their Self Titled and In Love And Death albums, I was initially excited because those are the only two albums I like by them, but then I remembered that Bert can't scream anymore, Jeph's screams sound absolutely horrible, half the original band is gone now, etc. So to not tarnish my nostalgic love for those two albums, I decided to not go, and I haven't regretted it one bit, haha.

So yeah, it would take a really good opening band or two to get me to actually go to another AVA show...

Honestly think you missed out here. I saw them at Taste of Chaos last year, and honestly was going to leave before their set for all the reasons you listed. Bummed Bert doesnt do screams, etc. But holy shit dude... they absolutely brought it, their set ended up being one of the best of the day hands down. Everyone I was with was super surprised that it ended up that way. Justin on guitar added a ton to it as well. Anyway, my mind was completely changed, it was so great

Yes, they've always had "slick production" that's "polished" every which way.

However, that doesn't change the fact that 'Bored to Death' is written outside of Mark's vocal range. There are plenty of existing songs that are written within his range and aren't as difficult to sing live (regardless if he sings them perfectly).

I'm concerned that there will be other songs, a la "Bored to Death," that are written outside of Mark's wheelhouse since Feldmann could make up the difference in the studio.

Again, this is not the first time this criticism has been directed at Feldmann. I've noticed it firsthand as my band interviewed with him once.

  14. Yeah, I had the opposite kind of thing happen for me. The last time I was at Warped Tour, The Used played and so I thought I'd go check them out cuz it had been awhile since I'd seen them. In the middle of their set, they brought Branden (original drummer, for the newbs) and they played "A Box Full of Sharp Objects." I was stoked at first because that is one of my favorite Used songs, but Jeph doing the screaming completely ruined it for me. It was horrible.
In fact, here's a video of it:

It just bums me out. They're from my town and so they used to play around here all the time. I was at the show where they played "On My Own" for the very first time live. They were amazing. So much energy! So much screaming! So much puking! It was unlike anything I'd ever seen before.

And then... they became what they are now, I guess.

They've performed it live once. I wouldn't write it off as completely out of Mark's range just yet.

Id go if Tom was as passionate with his vocals as he was for the ten year untitled shows. He actually sounded great at the one I was at.

  17. is it because the backing track was helping him out? ha

You can hear it on the studio track itself. That's when the concern first popped up in my head. The live performance just cemented what I was already thinking.

Yeah I mean, they totally aren't like the early days which was insane and some of the craziest shit I've seen, but I promise you they are back at a better place than in that video. Bert's also totally sober and has a way more positive energy vibe, but still gets crazy. Jeph's screams are no classic-Bert of course, but watch this vid from the show I was at. You can at least tell the band is tighter and it's a good performance

  20. they do sound better in that video than that warped tour video i linked to, for sure. but man, i'd kill to see '2002 the Used' play their self titled album straight through.

Gotta say, I disagree. Both songs are very fun and extremely catchy. Prime examples of Blink's charm.

Rock Show's bridge alone was destined for the top 10.

Jesus. I'd rather watch Tom when he did that high voice and monster voice in First Date lol.

    Things have changed.

The Rock Show is an all-time great Blink single. First Date is their worst single ever.
