Sooooo i think i liked this more than the book. I would have liked to have seen things like the tunnel and stuff visualized from the book. But this was really something. Even with the expectations i had, this was still better. That final 30 minutes is bound to be my favorite piece of cinema this year.

i definitely definitely heard the accent earlier, but I can’t remember now if that’s before or after the mission.

One thing I maybe think could’ve explained it would have been that someone else on his expedition was a Southerner and it was refracted onto him by the Shimmer. I thought I remembered that they talked about possibly taking on aspects of each other’s personalities because of the Shimmer in the movie.

Nah just nervous about how I’d feel. I’ve heard mixed things. I always want to love every movie.

I have no opinion on this movie. Definitely didn’t walk of the theater with a smile and didn’t really have great time honestly, but wasn’t that type of movie. I feel different. I feel weird. Not sure if I went into my local cinemark or I was actually in the shimmer myself. Kind of shell shocked so I guess the movie did it’s job.

Definitely going to need to take some time to digest and read some interpretations and possibly watch again. Only thing i can say for sure is that the whole lighthouse sequence was intoxicating.

I think one of my favorite things about this is that he was able to sneak the last 30 minutes into a big budget movie. Like he Trojan Horsed the art movie into the studio movie

Unfortunately i don’t know whether i dislike, like, or love the film. Something I never know though is whether the thematic and thought provoking aspects of a film should outweigh my enjoyment or the visceral feeling I got from watching.

In contrast I had a ball watching Arrival and I’d even say that had less entertainment value than this one but I still walked away loving that right away.

Idk but as I said can’t stop thinking about it and I really have to see it again and I’m excited to. I kind of love not knowing how I feel lol This film makes me love movies which is weird considering I cant say I love it. What’s wrong with me? Why are my fingerprints moving?!

Went by myself last night and I was a really great experience.

Didn’t read the book or read any reviews. Went in blind because I loved ex machina and boy was I not disappointed.

That was such a cool throwback slow burn sci fi flick with an ambiguous ending I might not ever fully grasp.

Also super surprised the theatre was packed on a Tuesday. Hope this has some legs.

Just got back from this. I really liked it but will definitely need to take some time to process that lol

The theater was surprisingly packed. Pretty sure it was almost sold out except for a few seats in first row

Really enjoyed this for the most part. Not sure how I feel about the ending. I’m curious to read the books now.

Yeah, I couldn’t tell if this was just used as a cheap way to end on a twist, or if it makes sense within the logic of this world and I didn’t understand

Sorry for the quad post, but I really appreciate the fact that basically the entire lighthouse sequence was accomplished through visual storytelling.

Regarding whether or not she’s a clone now: in the book, she’s still herself but recognizes there’s something more blossoming within her (she calls it “light”) so I would say it’s still the original her but with more refractions, especially driven home by the tattoo transfer and different body language.

Not having read the book, that was my thought immediately after it ended.

This is the way i see it too. It’s still her. But she is different now. As evidenced by the scene where she checks her blood and it was already different

Yeah I think the eye thing was just to signify that she has been severely altered by Area X, perhaps even to a degree that it almost doesn't matter whether or not she's a clone. Like, she's been so changed that the distinction almost doesn't even apply anymore. She's just as much "of" that place as the Kane clone now.
