Yep. He was refusing to even consider any sort of change. Also attacked The Atlantic as a non reputable source (it’s a very good source) and then basically called a Washington Post article fake news when it didn’t align with his point

i had a grand time. its always a little weird confronting a fb friend's actual friend/family but chorus fb interactions always make me smile haha

I just literally don’t understand people that are so passionate about guns and the second amendment. The argument they always go back to is if the government became so corrupt that it put them in danger they need to be able to defend themselves.... let’s be real, if the US military becomes corrupt and decides to turn on its citizens, the country is over at that point lol it’s such a dumb argument to me

 

i've stayed somewhat sympathetic to that argument by thinking perhaps they could use it defend themselves/divert attention so family could hide if police/military came to their homes. thats super specific and unlikely, but i guess not the most unreasonable thing unless the govt carpet bombed everything immediately. i think anyone can empathize with fear and hope on some level. that said, i completely agree with you and think its silly, but whats even more baffling to me is the little quippy arguments like "people kill people," "criminals don't follow laws," "cars and knives kill more," arguments that don't actually say anything and you'd hope would be ridiculed by any person in any other context.

also, whats more annoying than confusing is when side discussions on fb always turn into people debating gun specs/combat tactics/caliber sizes to discredit reporting and proclaim their own expertise, but meanwhile every other political issue they treat with the nuance of a coloring book

I’m late to this discussion, but the argument that we should have guns in order to protect ourselves is null and void in the age of militarized police and drone warfare. You wanna take on trained psychos? Good luck lol. I’m not saying guns should be banned as a whole, but if your pro-gun argument is that you need guns to protect yourself from the police/military then you are wrong. That shit was written when we were using muskets lol

So I don’t have any real first hand experience of guns, so it’s hard for me to have a properly formed opinion, but y’all gun laws are fucked, and people’s defence of them are always from such a flawed perspective

 

I have a friend who is staunchly pro-gun and I asked him that were harsher gun laws proven to reduce mass shootings would he support it and I never got a clear answer. Why? Because nearly all pro-gunners are coming from a very selfish standpoint. They genuinely don’t give a fuck that people...fucking children...are getting slaughtered at an insane rate, I’m convinced. They always use the “I need guns to protect myself from the government” argument which doesn’t really fly today. And it’s like, we aren’t even saying we’re gonna strip you of your guns lol we just want more restrictive laws. I don’t get it. Like, this shouldn’t even be a discussion. I don’t know why guns became so integral to American identity but it’s poisonous.
