yeah I also overlooked Maiden and Priest for waaayyyy too long. I still haven't listened to either of these band's full discographies (kind of daunting at this point).

That said, Powerslave is my go-to for Maiden

I gotta go with Trendkill too, for the same reasons. I'd probably put Far Beyond Driven next, after that it's kind of a toss-up between Cowboys, Vulgar, and Steel. All really good records either way.

I gotta go with The Number of the Beast, but Killers, self-titled, Powerslave, and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son are all excellent too. Really anything from those first seven albums I'd say is essential.

gonna go ahead and say that Priest's best albums are Point of Entry, Hell Bent for Leather, British Steel, Stained Class, Defenders of the Faith, and Painkiller.

Screaming for Vengeance is really good too but I've honestly never connected with it the same way a lot of fans have, and even though it gets cited as their best along with British Steel, I feel like all the other albums I listed are better.

hell yeah. Jester Race-Whoracle-Colony is honestly the peak of melodic guitar playing in metal to me. Clayman is pretty good too. I honestly might recommend just stopping right there though lol

yeah thats the hardest part of getting into these really storied bands is scouring opinions on the internet as to which albums are essential and which ones arent worth the time of day haha

It's almost universally agreed the first 4 albums are the shit and the drop after Clayman is steep. if you're at anything Reroute to Remain-onward and you feel like you can't stomach something slightly worse than what you just listened to, don't go on to the next album

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

    A few specific recs:

Anvil: The Story of Anvil is a great metal doc that's equal parts inspiring and infuriating because of some of the choices that they make. They have a great story though. It was on Netflix last I saw.

Until the Light Takes Us is the first one that comes to mind. It's about the 90s Scandinavian black metal scene looking at what drove the movement and the controversies behind it. No idea where you'd find it.

Noisey/Vice also had a docuseries a while back that focused one-man black metal projects called One-Man Metal, I believe. The whole thing is on YouTube IIRC.

It's also twelve years old at this point, but I did also enjoy Workhorse Chronicles from Mastodon. Not sure where'd you'd find it nowadays.

Out of the 100 metal albums I listened to a few years ago, I rated Rust In Peace higher than anything else. It's near perfect (the only blemish being the weird "Dawn Patrol" even tho it has a sick bass line). Peace Sells is still a great album, followed by Killing and So Far. Countdown is also solid as the album where they followed Metallica's lead and left thrash behind.

Dave is crazy, but yeah that guy can shred.

I've stayed away from Pantera for a good while because I've not wanted anything Phil Anselmo in my life but I dunno. Am I fucking up by doing that?
