I really like this, but like Keep You, this will take time to grow on me. Not as immediately catchy.

I do not see the Anberlin in it much at all, and I'm a huge Anberlin fan (please come back). I also don't want to see Goodness in it, because that album is arduous and inaccessible.

We reach for the longest shadow

    hot take central right here.

I won't comment on the Hotelier, but I hear Anberlin in the first 2 songs only I think. Maybe even Bay of Dreams. I can hear Stephen singing those melodies pretty clearly in my head.

EDIT: I hear a little Bay of Dreams in this for sure.

Don't think it's that hot of a take. A hot take would be saying the album is bad. (Which it isn't)

I won't listen to that Youtube though (I'm at work), and also I try to forget about New Surrender, their worst record.

He didn't say it's bad, just that it's arduous and inaccessible. :-|

Who cares what he thinks? He's allowed think what he wants.

I hear no Anberlin, nor Hotelier in this.

I hear Hotelier in the sense of progression from album to album. A heart wrenching album to an album with a little more hope, though I think there is more difference from Home to Goodness than Keep You to this.

Anyway... I finally found a cola variant for Keep You. I'm debating if I want the yellow Urban Outfitters variant, clear from KRM, or just plain black from Amazon (I assume it's black). I don't know if I have the patience for the tour variant.

Thank you. It's almost as if the band tried purposefully to make it as such with the risqué album cover, and the multiple "coordinates" filler tracks. I really really love "Home..." but Goodness is just so hard to get into, and I find myself revisiting it far less than the previous record.

I suppose that's one way to look at it, but given the subject topics at hand I think they're separate enough.

I feel like the songs are honestly more accessible than Home. Two Deliverances, Settle the Scar, and Soft Animal are catchier than anything off of Home to me.

I get goodness vibes from Charisma and Bitter Red but not from the rest of the album

Yeah, it’s not a sonic thing to me, it’s the lyrics and feeling the album gives off.

Honestly didn't even think of that. Next time I listen I'll try to see if I can see the correlation.

Perhaps I should listen to Goodness and this back to back tonight, but out of all my listens so far I've gotten no similar feeling from this as I do from Goodness. Although I've never really connected with Goodness like many on here

Personally think Kyle and Christian sing similarly which contributes to the vibe. They scream kind of similarly too, though that doesn't happen here

I don't think this is sonically anything like Goodness, but I can see how the atmosphere and feel of the albums is similar, especially given the records that they follow. They're both clearly more hopeful releases following what were devastatingly heartbreaking releases, "the dawn that follows the dark night" so to speak.

I also don't get how Goodness is inaccessible. It's basically an emo-influenced pop-rock record. I guess the spoken-word intro followed by the start of "Goodness pt. 2" can be a little off putting (so I can kind of see how someone might think it's an arduous listen, at least at the beginning) but in general that record is catchy as hell.

Grief is only love that’s got no place to go Supporter

There's some good songs on Goodness for sure, but as a whole I enjoy Home much more. Between the spoken word intro and the coordinates songs I feel like there is just zero flow to Goodness. I end up skipping those every time. And I know some people were happy they made a somewhat "happier" record but man I loved Home for its intimate crushing lyrics haha.

I mean Goodness is pretty inaccessible to the wider audience like a lot of hyped albums on here, so yeah ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Agreed. I like it, but Home is a lot better. Goodness could be great but there's small things that hold it back for me.
