  1. In terms of writing rhythm guitar parts these guys are absolutely in the conversation and maybe above Bob, but what Bob has over them I think is that you could probably drop him on stage in the middle of just about any band's performance and he would find exactly what space needs to be filled and how...the intuition you gain by improvising for 50 years is un-imitatable imo

no one should listen to new music or release new music until they’ve heard the john mayall album from 1968

theres an infinite amount of music out there already and and an infinite amount of music to come out, it just seems natural people will keep up with it as it comes out?

im listening to a fucking slint album right now that came out in 1989. i’m sure jake listens to plenty of old shit. spo practically begs everyone to listen to van morrison. no one is out here claiming you should only listen to new music and ignore the roots. but to act like listening to new music and cataloging what we’re listening to is somehow a bad thing when it’s simply exponentially easier and just as rewarding is very very odd.

  6. why listen to the 80th best album of 2017 when u could be listening to the 80th best dead show of the 70s

My 80th favorite album from last year is Nnamdi Ogbonnaya - Drool. My second favorite album from 1965 is Pastel Blues.

No longer. I've recognized that because I don't talk about food rankings in every thread I've become irrelevant on this site. Resigned myself to arguing with Tetra in the Entertainment forum for the most part.

Maybe that's my hesitation. It's hard for me to view him purely as a rhythm guitarist. Because he improvises so much and they do so much guitar interplay. I know Jerry was much more of a lead guitarist, but yeah.

I am so conflicted on this old v new perspective in music. I think it's silly but I am similar minded when it comes to film. I could not give a shit if someone wastes their time with JT's latest trash water, but I feel rage when folks are wasting their time on Emoji Movie or Cloverfield 3 when there's so much out there.

I honestly think it has a lot to do with the community that you engage with. The film threads on this site, for the most part, are still super engaging in terms of discussing a lot of classic cinema while music threads tend to dry out after the year a record was made, save a slim number.

but what if someone is keeping up with current, good films but isnt entirely familiar with classics? would you shame them?
