I just don't really like downloading music anymore / my laptop is busted so I only have my work computer

 

Participating in downloading leaked music doesn't interest me. The artist wanted it released in a certain way and I have no problem respecting that.

 

searching for links is annoying too. it’s so much easier to wait six days and have it just available on apple music.

 

ughhh, fake lighting. I'm not really taking in lyrics, it's always hard for me to do that on a first listen, but the melodies in this song are awesome.

 

this argument doesn't really make sense upon any sort of scrutiny.

- the label decides the release date
- you will still be listening to the same music, especially seeing how this and most other leaks are incredible quality
- most of us aren't going to be listening to the album in any non-digital format.

As I said, I get it if some Vinyl enthusiasts want to wait for their LPs, but if you're not one of them the only thing that changes between today and friday is time.

 

I don't understand telling someone that they're wrong for wanting to wait until the actual release date instead of listening to a leak. Like, that's their choice and what they prefer, there's really no need to try and convince them or make them feel like they're wrong for not downloading a leak

 

I just want to give them my .00005 cents when I have my first listen on Spotify on Friday

I understand why albums have "release dates" despite being done when they're done and instant digital distribution being a thing. Artists and labels need time to build hype and get the word out, even though the amount of money they make on music sales is small compared to what they make on merch and ticket sales. But I also hate waiting. But I also don't like not giving artists I support the downloads/plays on Apple Music, even though they see almost no compensation for it. So in rare instances I listen to leaks on my laptop but then download the album on Apple Music on release day, but 95% of the time I wait.

My ideal situation would be that when an album is done, it immediately goes up on streaming and is made available for digital purchase while also being made available for preorder physically. That way, the album can't "leak" early, anyone who wants to stream it can do so and contribute to the artist from day one, and whoever wants to buy the physical version can do so as well. Then there's way less of an incentive for people to leak rips because it was always widely available as soon as it was finished. There's always going to be music piracy but at least if it's made available officially from the start less people will have to rely on leaked rips while waiting for an arbitrary, label-defined release day. But I know this is unrealistic and would never happen.

 

Negative

 

Bands, in general, do not like their music being released early. The earlier it is leaked, the more of a headache it causes. Remember when Thrice had their album leaked 3 months early? They really, really loved that. I won't support people who leak and I won't support sharing leaked music. No thanks. It's that simple. Don't confuse this as me not wanting to listen to the new album, I really do. For me, this is about being mature enough to have patience and respect.

There's plenty of reasons not to download leaks. Downloading leaks is illegal, this website is clearly against downloading leaks, etc etc. In fact, in this day and age of music where you can pay 10 dollars a month to have access to any music you want, I don't really get why people still download leaks other than people are just impatient.

 

It's dumbfounding, really.

 

and again, respectfully, that's anecdotal evidence. some bands are psyched when people get their stuff early because release dates are dragged out so long.
I think as long as you do the right thing once the album comes out (especially if it's one week) you should be in the clear.

but hey, if you're not comfortable listening early you do you, I was merely asking why people feel that way and you've amply answered that questions.

I’d say there is a good amount of evidence that this site is not “against” leaks. Either way. People can do what they want

Well as far as I know you get banned for just blatantly posting leaks in a thread right? And that's why people resort to PM's and what not. I don't know, from my perspective it seems like Jason and the crew don't really approve of leaks. But you're right, to each their own. I love me some Pianos and am looking forward to listening on Friday.
