That Matic through pass was a beaut. Too bad Martial couldn't finish it off.

Valencia should be off for that.

It's absolutely ridiculous that we did not score in that game. What fucking hex is on José at St. James's Park. Three off the line, a wonder save by a debut keeper.

  7. Love waking up to that result. Now time for Southampton to help us out.

fwiw i counted two offside incidents in the liverpool game today where the whistle was blown after the fact because the decision of the defender had been impacted by an offside player. the clearest example was karius coming out and sweeping a ball into the stands as a precaution. last week's argument suggests it should've been a throw in, and that had karius come out and whiffed on it, carillo would've been free to play the ball. instead it was a free kick, only whistled for after karius had chosen to clear it into the seats.

Saw news that McCarthy might be getting a contract extension, fuck my life if that's true. Club is just stuck in mediocrity these days.

Think Mick is a top championship manager. Will work wonders on a limited budget and get the best out of average players. Would be perfect for the situation Wednesday are currently in.

    You can have him.

Ipswich have made zero progression under him, play awful football despite having some good players. He done really well to steady the ship but we need to change things to move forward. Ideally I want a younger manager to come in and push things forward, but that's not happening. 16 years in the Championship, not getting out anytime soon.

Well, what should've been the call? You can't be zealous about the letter of the law one week and dismissive the next.

Got any videos of the incidents?

You need to learn to let things go, or learn the rules or something. Can't be bothered to read your shitposts every time there's an offside incident. I'll have to ignore you like 50% of the people on this thread has done.

I don't have a clip of it and I'd doubt if it was posted anywhere because it was an innocuous play that occurs every game, which is why I'm surprised you can't even fathom an incident of a keeper kicking a ball out of bounds to deal with it played through to an offside attacker.

I mean I've explained the rules to you and there's been videos posted of professional referees explaining the rules to you and you still don't understand them.

Without the clip I can't make a judgement, so enjoy yourself

What would you need to be making a judgment about? The threat of the play? You said that was irrelevant last week and not the job of the referee to determine.

Did the attacker go for the ball? If he did then it's offside.

Did the player stand offside (like Kane did last week)? Then it's not offside.

Can't make a judgement as I didn't see it. It's pretty simple, I explained it last week. Can't be bothered to talk about this any more, I'm sure the thread is fed up of reading you whine about offside calls too. So enjoy yourself

Awful football tends to get you out of this league though. You need champions league quality players to football your way out ala Wolves.

Would have loved a Dean Smith/Paul Hirst at Hillsborough but can’t see them taking us forward. As it is we went for a complete unknown who can’t prove himself because of the 13 players out injured.

Don’t think Ipswich will progress without some serious investment though.

With regard to this particular incident, I believe he had pulled up. He didn't get close to the ball, but the threat made Karius deal with it safely.

Just because you are camped a foot behind the last defender does not make you 'less offside' than if you are engaging in a dead sprint. Kane was not being passive, he was still trying to stay onside and receive the pass as the play unfolded. That makes him active. You accused me of being interpretive with the rule last week, but you seem to be doing just as much of your own interpreting.

My advice would be don't make an argument if you're not interested in standing by it more than a week.

I don't know if the thread is fed up with legitimate discussion of the offside rule, but I'm sure it's less draining on everyone's IQ than 'christian pulisic is better than ousmane dembele' or 'leicester don't maintain enough possession to win the league' or 'liverpool have the worst attack of the big six and need a 20 goal striker'.

I made an argument about an incident I watched, I'm not going to make an argument about an incident I didn't see.

There's awful football and then there's whatever Ipswich play. We've actually managed to play some decent football, but as soon as we concede or get put under pressure we quick resort to kicking it to the corner and hoping our forwards can chase it down.

Our owner won't invest more than he's doing so, McCarthy's done well to get some players in cheap and I doubt we'll ever be in danger of relegation any time soon (baring a disaster). Mid-table Championship for life it is. Better than Sunderland though.

Highlights package has made Smalling look like a liability today.

Some heroic defending from our lot.

Just saw a couple of clips. Smalling booked for diving? Another English diver.

Valencia should have definitely been sent off for that... whatever it was he attempted.

Yeah, I'm not sure how he avoided a red for that. The ball hits Atsu on the chest and goes straight up and somehow Valencia decides that he should go head height with his boot to get the second ball?

I'm also staggered at how Benitez seems to have turned Diame around. He's been absolutely embarrassing for months, but in recent games he's been one of our standout performers. No idea where that has come from.
