I'm terrible with RIYL, and it has a lot of different musical styles on the same record. I can confidently say, knowing what you like, you'll love the record

 

yeah comparing blink to Tears For Fears would have been a step too far.

I got a pretty funny Animal Flag story when I saw them with Emperor X but can't remember if I told it before in here or not.

yeah i have no idea how to RIYL this one. he worked with grimes and purity ring but there really isn't much in common with that? it's a super eclectic, weird pop album that hits a ton of different sounds and the songwriting is truly incredible. lots of musical moments that i still don't understand how he decided this would work

So I'm not sure if Andrew is known for being a dick or if this was a one-off.

My friend was working security at SXSW backstage in 2008 I believe. He was just in charge of making sure people had their ID's to get backstage. Andrew walks up without a badge and my friend tells him he needs to have a badge to get back there. He tells him he left it backstage. He tells him he'll need to contact someone and get a new one. Then he said "are you kidding me? You must recognize me, I'm in MGMT" (my friend legitimately had never seen what they looked like before) My friend advised him that he's just doing his job. Andrew responds "this is bullshit, you're just trying to piss me off, I'm going to get you fired, you definitely know who I am" My friend responded "I don't know what you look like, and I don't listen to your shitty band"

My friend ended up getting fired for his last comment, because he made it as his boss was approaching because he could tell there was a tense situation haha

Obviously I wasn't there, so it's all secondhand, but it kind of made me not like MGMT as much, because he seemed kind of entitled. Maybe he's well-known for that, maybe he's not.

 

Yeah these guys are totally from Edmonton hahah

 

LOL I don't know what anyone from MGMT looks like either.

 

I thought MGMT was just a computer that figured out how to make catchy songs.
