Are all of the original Nightmare on Elm Street films worth watching, or should I steer clear of any of them in particular?

 

Dream Warriers is great. I legit like the second one too for the subtext but I think that's more mixed. Otherwise I don't usually bother much

I watched RAW last night. I gagged every time she ate flesh. Pretty visceral shit in this movie. So what— its a metaphor for puberty and inheriting unwanted traits from your parents, right?

 

Haven't watched this in years, good call.

I still find it hard to believe that I have yet to watch this, now will be the time!

 

great film and the sound design is sublime

 

The Ritual was very good

 

There we go. Got about 5 hours in before I had to stop to go to class. Going back in 3 weeks to hopefully finish it off. The locket/mini portrait is the only part that’s completed at this point. The other movie reference in so far is the mummy ring on her hand. I’ll be adding pieces for each movie as we go forward. I can’t wait to finish off the bride so it looks more complete and less like a bunch of lines haha

Just watched The Ritual and really enjoyed it. I didn't realize it was from the guy who made The Signal which was one of my favorites of the last decade or so. Is Southbound just as good as these other two?

 

Southbound is a great anthology, but it is obviously uneven as all anthologies are

 

I'll have to check it out. So did Bruckner just write/direct a small piece of it, like V/H/S?

yes and yes to my understanding! and I agree with you on The Singal, it's fantastic. The second act at the party is so ridiculous.

Decided to watch Re-Kill, wasn't too bad, very Starship Troopers-esque in its format, which I enjoy

 

Fucking looooved The Ritual. So happy for Adam Nevill. As an adaptation I don't agree with the third act changes, but what they do still works.

has there ever been a horror movie (besides maybe creep 2 acknowledging it) where we actually see someone listen to their gut and they don't cut through the woods/read the latin words out of the scary book they found/run upstairs instead of out the front door/etc ?

edit: even like... i'm super lazy...i would always stick to the trail. not even a gut thing, just a lazy thing

 

Cabin in the Woods has the lazy stoner be the one with actual common sense pointing out all the obvious dumb decisions they shouldn't make. My favorite part of the movie tbh.

 

The Ritual sort of had a moment like that... After the first house and they have all the nightmares they follow that path straight to another creepy looking cabin, and say no fuckin way and move on
Of course the whole movie is based around them cutting through the woods, soo

 

Their reasoning for taking a shortcut is very believable though.

 

Oh absolutely, I just felt weird mentioning it when @BirdPerson literally used cutting through the forest as an example, haha.
