Maybe I’m an idiot but this post actually puts a different perspective on it. I didn’t really think about it in that way I guess. Thank you

So....We don't see ANY cops publicly coming forward to condemn those doing bad but always see them in droves defending those doing bad. This is why their is the assumption that "all cops are bad." The silence is literally dangerous to the general public. In a situation with an officer, poc especially, do not have time to determine whether they're dealing with a "good or bad" cop. They're immediate concern is not being killed, assaulted or arrested because that is what they experience and are shown happens time and time again. They literally do not have the luxury of parsing cops intentions because it could cost them their lives.

Thus why it's very much the opposite of ignorance to assume all cops are bad. It's literally a matter of life and death to do so for a lot of people.

No? Just giving my two cents on a very talked about topic in this country.

I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt here, but asking marginalized people to remain calm as they speak out against an organization that systemically targets and kills them is a very privileged position. If there is anything worth being upset about, it's that.

Like I think doomsday said, it’s not an easy thing to come to terms with, I know the first time I heard someone say something along the lines of “all cops are bastards” I was just baffled how anyone could say that

No we don’t aee any cops coming out about it in the news but that doesn’t mean a cop has and it’s been covered up by the bastard cops. Also cops don’t have the luxury to determine if the person they are dealing with is crazy and can do something to harm them at any moment. That can go both ways.

I am kind of naive about being peaceful, trust me I am aware. Sorry man.

i can appreciate the sentiment on a basic level but you have people of color in here tasked to answer why all cops are guilty on some level amidst years of all kinds of evidence, calm debate is for... other things.

edit: was beat to saying this my b

Again, I’m being naive I know. I wasn’t even aiming at either side in particular when I meant calm. But I know I’m being quite naive. I thank you for at least appreciating it on a basic level

  22. Same. And now I'm at the point where I've had conversations with my family how I don't think I could, in good faith, call the police on someone because I'd be living with the very real possibility I'm about to get them killed. If I witnessed violence happening to another person, different calculus, but if I saw someone break into a car I'd be like ... nah, not worth it. And that's what this shitty institution has done with their fucked up racism and murder and walking away from it pretending like it's not happening with zero consequences.

It’s an unsettling thought knowing you could call the cops and get some piece of shit who is power hungry and harm someone like that.

Yeah you hear about people getting into car accidents, calling the cops and they wind up dead because the trigger happy bastards are clearly unfit for the job. It's a fucked up system to begin with but you flood it with unchecked power given to unqualified people and it goes from fucked up to deadly real quick.

Yeah, absolutely. And that same realization has been difficult for me over the last roughly six months since I’ve moved to Albuquerque, which has tons of (as far as I can tell, mostly nonviolent) crime.
