Don't worry, I have to review this one as well and I am not afraid to give my honest opinion. I think the band(s) should accept and appreciate criticism, whether it is good or bad.

I didn’t know this was a thing until it got brought up by Nate in the Metal thread. This sounds really cool and I’d like to get involved if you’re needing more people :-)

Fair enough man. Sorry you didn’t really enjoy them!

FWIW I really enjoyed the Fjort album. Didn’t find it an issue that I couldn’t understand the lyrics, them being in german haha. Just a really cool album and a good listen.

The Body was pretty weird to be honest. Parts extreme metal, parts weird synth sounds/drums. Lots of indecipherable high pitched screamed vocals. I guess I just didn’t get it?

I am a little late for this because I had sick children to tend to. Sorry for the delay @teebs41 . Forgive me.

Teebs gave me Emery- You Were Never Alone. I had never even heard of this band before this club and I am quite surprised! From the moment I heard the opening track I was in love with this album. Rock, Pebble, Stone is an insanely catchy introduction to this album, with very memorable hooks and lyrics. It does not however prepare you for what’s to come, as the very next track Thrash is intense and filled with powerful screams and a guitar that shreds. This album is extremely melodic, and it has a nice balance of fast, intense, slow, lullaby like, clean vocals, heavy screaming and it’s so good! The Less You Say is now one of my favorite songs I have heard in recent years (my wife and I were dancing to it last night!). This album is so so good, I will say anyone who likes catchy melodic rock with some heavy punches mixed in should pick this album up. Every song from those listed to Go Wrong Young Man and Alone are so very good.

So this week I listened to Embodyment’s The Narrow Scope Of Things, recommended to me by my friend @bachna84

I’d never heard of embodyment, and after seeing the record came out in 2000, when I was 9, that made more sense. Bachna knew what chord to strike though with a Solid State Record’s release, as that label has put out some of my favorite work and I’d imagine some of his. From the first few songs it was clear to see how these guys influenced some future solid state favorites, though Wikipedia tells me this was their first record to drop their previous death metal style for more alternative rock.

My favorite thing about this record was the guitar work. Not too chuggy or breakdown-y but heavy and unrelenting, just as I like it. The late 90s/early aughts vibes are strong though of course. One Less Addiction is a stand out slower song. Their general sound reminded me at times of artist in the ambulance-era thrice, bleed the dream, and fear factory, especially in the vocals.

The vocals, I must admit, were not my favorite. They sometimes reminded me of Aaron Lewis, which is a good thing, but I think they could’ve benefited from a more powerful singer, and there aren’t too many memorable melodies. I tended to prefer the heavier, screaming moments, so I look forward to checking out their alleged death metal phase in the future.

Overall, this record wasn’t my favorite, but I did like it, it was easy to come back to, and I still come back to a few tracks in particular that I’d especially recommend to others:
Winter kiss, greedy hands, and confessions.

    Thanks for the rec!
