So... what releases are people excited for in 2018?

Holy cow. So many. The trifecta of Andys (Andrew Peterson, Andy Gullahorn, and Andrew Osenga) are all putting out new records. AP's obviousy my favorite so I'm psyched, I got an early acoustic copy of AG's and it's excellent, and Andrew Osenga's new album The Painted Desert has set the bar SUPER high for 2018.

Other than those three who probably are already locked into my top 10...

    My Epic
    Copeland
    twenty one pilots
    mewithoutYou
    La Dispute
    Mae
    The Gray Havens
    Levi the Poet
    Pianos Become the Teeth
    Kye Kye
    Oh, Sleeper
    Anchor & Braille

I'll update this list cause I know I missed a lot.

    For me:
listener - finally putting out there full length which I'm so excited about!
The Oh Hellos - the second EP in their series is out in February. The first was great.
mewithoutYou - this band has influenced my life more than any other. I'm intrigued to hear what they do next.
Audrey Assad - I've been slowly getting into her music. I really appreciate her views on Twitter so I'll definitely check this out when it is released.
Copeland - thought they were putting this out last year but whenever it comes, if it's as good as Ixora I am well and truly ready for it!
Liz Vice - her debut album blew me away and was like nothing else that I listened to. Looking forward to seeing how she's progressed since then.
Sleeping Giant - their final album so I'll definitely check it out. I hardly listened to any really heavy music last year so excited for something that will perk my interest in that genre again.
Emery - I pledged to get a download of their new album and although I wouldn't say I'm super excited about it, I'm hoping the full return of Devin results in a brilliant album. We shall see!

Very excited for La Dispute too. Rooms of the House was a phenomenal record. I hope the expand some of the sound there. Didn't know Mae and Kye Kye had stuff coming out so that's exciting. Same with Anchor & Braille.

I'll definitely get the next My Epic release even though there last EP wasn't my favourite. Weren't they meant to be putting out an EP each year? So much for that plan!

I loved Oh, Sleeper's debut but their appeal has gradually declined to my ears with every release. I think Micah & Shane are great lyricists and vocalists though so might have to give that a go.

    The rivalry is back on

I’m not sure what I’m looking forward to in the Christian space. I’d be thrilled if we get new music from Kings K, Paper Route, The Last Bison, and Needtobreathe. I’m also looking forward to new Anchor and Braille

We’ve already got a new Rend Collective so we’re off to a good start.

Rend Collective seem to put out albums very frequently. How is this one?

It’s pretty good! With the exception of a couple songs, it reminds me a lot more of Hillsong than anything they’ve done before. Seems like it’ll translate well to a worship setting.

As a casual fan who enjoys their stuff, but never loves it, I really really like the new album.

Literally everything you mentioned that I didn't, minus maybe Sleeping Giant, is highly anticipated for me too.

Between mewithoutYou, listener, Levi the Poet, La Dispute, and (kind of) twenty one pilots it's gonna be a good year for spoken word.

There's a new Anchor & Braille release coming? Where'd you get that info? I follow Stephen Christian pretty closely and haven't heard any info about that.

Hmm... something sounding like Hillsong is not what I'm looking for in a Rend Collective album. I liked their first album which sounded like a more fun Mumford & Sons but I'm not sure I've appreciated their more recent stuff.

Just got an email from Levi The Poet announcing that his new album will be released one month from today. Excited. It's crazy we get Levi & listener releasing albums in the same month and then I get to see them play in the UK in early March. Win!

    Edit:

You got me into Andrew Peterson and it would only make sense I find out through you that there is a new record coming out, sweet!

Copeland, mewithoutYou, La Dispute, Mae and Pianos are all essential. How could you forget Underoath??

I love the listener's guest "vocal" appearance in David De La Hoz, but that's about it haha.

Were you under the camp of not liking YWNA as much?

Oh yes!! Underoath!! I keep having to pinch myself remembering they're coming out with new music.

I liked YWNA it just didn’t compare to their first four albums - mainly production wise actually. It’s a good concept I just never listened to it as much as their earlier stuff. I really don’t enjoy WDWWW as much as any of their other albums though!

Basically if I think “I want to listen to Emery” I’ll probably choose In Shallow Seas, The Weak’s End or The Question and I have a soft spot from I’m Only a Man. When they’ve got so many albums it’s hard to compete. I know some people think YWNA is their best though.

Chipping in on Underoath - I’m pleased they’ve recorded and I’ll definitely check it out... my excitement will increase depending on which way they’ve taken their sound!

Not to be annoying, but did anyone get to listen to this song? Curious what you guys thoughts are. If you hate it, I won't tell him. Haha. We've both been writing a lot and are finally starting to get it out there and any feedback is awesome!

Yeah that makes sense. I think they got back on track with YWNA, so we'll see how this new one turns out!

Has anybody heard Mark Lee Townsend's solo record? I heard two songs with Matt T and Wes, they were really good. It was cool hearing Wes sing again too.. I miss Deas Vail :(

Really liked what I heard. Haven't heard the whole thing yet.

I too listened to the Wes Blaylock song and loved hearing his voice again. It's funny. I loved Deas Vail before I found Copeland and Mew then when I discovered the latter two bands I thought Deas Vail was inferior. But I just went back and listened to their discography recently and holy cow was All the Houses Look the Same ahead of its time.

I visited the page twice on my iPhone but couldn't find anywhere to listen. Every time I clicked the Soundcloud link it kept trying to open iTunes... not sure why but didn't have the patience to look into it.
Deas Vail were great. There were some lovely songs on Birds & Cages too. They kind of just disappeared.

  22. Hey everyone! If you're fans of Christian rock, you might be familiar with a website called JesusFreakHideout. Well, I'm co-hosting a podcast for the website, which just launched today!

    Jesusfreakhideout.com Podcast

We've got three episodes up, with new ones coming weekly.

The first three cover topics like the Grammys, a big Steven Curtis Chapman anniversary, how NF landed such a massive hit single, and new-ish releases from Propaganda, Sara Groves, and Michael W. Smith.

I think I found out about those three bands around the same time back in 09.. dang forever ago. I remember one of the songs from ATHLTS got a bad rep for sounding like a rip off from a song in Glass Kites. I also just finished going through their discography and it's so good. I think ATHLTS is best front to back, but each one is solid.

Dude Cages might be my favorite Deas Vail song.. and yeah I feel the same way. I remember I got to see them live I think back in 2010 and then they released their self titled and vanished.

So I saw The Oh Hellos live in Manchester in their UK tour last night and I have to say that they’re probably one of my favourite active bands these days.

Their live show is absorbing - 9 members crammed onto the stage and just having a great time! Great vocals, beautiful passion, flawless instrumentation and a whole lot of fun! I loved it. Second time I’ve seen them and it was just as wonderful.

I'm very familiar with JFH. I check it every week or so to see what's been reviewed but I find that a lot of my tastes don't overlap with it - it definitely caters a lot to the CCM crowd. Do you think the podcast will go in a similar way? What else do you do for them?

Pretty cool that you're involved - I'll be interested to hear it and see if it's something I'll be regularly listening too!
