Nah, people just don't wanna admit it cause they really like a band they discovered at a specific point in their life. That's cool.

 

I legit hear more Saves The Day in Fireworks' sound than NFG. Remember how the beginning of "Oh, Why Can't We Start Old and Get Younger" sounds a lot like "Bones?"

 

i wonder if this will be good. haven't liked much since suburbia.

 

This statement confuses me. Are you saying that people don't want to admit they ONLY like a band because it came around at a certain point in their life? I know for a fact that I wouldn't like Fireworks as much as I do if those records didn't come out when they did. Gospel while I was in the middle of college was the soundtrack to everything that comes along with college in the south, and OCL came out as I was making the transition from college to a 9-5 with a family. I'm proud of that, quite the opposite of "not wanting to admit it".

I just have no idea how the comparison is even made beyond Fireworks first LP.

Like they are so distinct from one another the opinion is legit baffling.

The ONLY thing you can point to is vocals. Dave sounds nasally like Jordan if you want to break it down that simple.

and that doesn't mean his opinion means more or less than mine, or your opinion.

 

I mean, I think I get it. There are bands that have been popular now that I don't get. I'm 26 and I don't get Modern Baseball at all, but maybe I would if I was say, 17-18. Jason might've even been older than that when Gospel and OCL came out.

 

it does mean people care about it more though, not hard to see why

 

I disagree, Jason's opinions have more weight and are (usually) good takes.

 

eh I guess, I'll cede on that. just think it's dumb, i guess. i just remember all those arguments i'd see jason getting into with people absolutely flipping their shit because he didn't like the music they like and going super overboard like just cause he owns a music related site, he should like everything every user likes.

idk i rambled a bit there and realised i'm being just as dumb so.

 

alright I'll retreat back to the Fireworks thread after this, but imagine thinking this sounds like NFG:

 

I don't care if someone wants to call Fireworks bad, I personally love them but again, it's the borderline ridiculous reasoning behind the take that i find dumbfounding.

that's a personal thing tho, he doesn't inherently hold that same weight for everyone. we all gravitate towards different people

i'll stop now, sorry for the derail.

yeah he did his classic hyperbole thing that he sometimes does. i guess i'm just used to that and can tune it out, maybe?
