I know they've been nominated in the past but never actually won so I guess that's what I'm thinking of. Shrug.

They’ve been nominated in each album cycle since Blood Mountain with the exception of Crack The Skye, which is crazy considering how great that album is.

Speaking of them, I oughta go relisten to their discography. It’s been a minute.

I always have one of their albums in pretty frequent rotation. Returning to emperor of sand lately because I didn't return to it a lot last year. It's great

I feel like it's their best sounding record since Crack the Skye, too. Brendan O'Brien really works well with these dudes.

I should go revisit The Hunter. It’s the album I’ve listened to the least and I never really gave it a chance.

Same since I got really into them before once more round the sun but favored everything else over the hunter as I went through their discography

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

this but sort of unironically to be the debbie downer I always am in this thread.

the grammys have been a joke with regards to metal for years (jethro tull, need i say more?), but i'm happy mastodon won because they've been passed over so many times before when they wrote better material so this is a symbolic achievement to me in a way.

and metallica lost at their two nods so there's that.

    Code Orange was robbed.

but I'm glad Mastodon got it, they're good people making excellent music.

my opinion on code orange's music aside, the grammys have a horrible track record with new metal nods that aren't ghost. there's no way code orange was winning the award.

    mastodon was more deserving anyway

    a literal succubitch

Couldn't get into the new Code Orange. Even as someone who enjoys beatdown, I found it far too reliant on single-note strumming that I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I need to give it another chance.

to get my unneeded opinion out of the way: all the nominees were bad this year other than meshuggah.

but to focus on other things, this new visigoth track is pretty good:

code orange is also a glitch in the matrix that i can't un-see now:

also nice to see the frontman for harms way pop-up with them.

i will give the boys from august burns red two things:

    1) they might be the most consistent metalcore band on the planet at this point, and they're pretty talented musicians. i've just never been able to get into them, and that window where i liked that kind of metalcore has long been shut.

    2) they looked rico suave last night:

They really are the best at what they do, but what they do has been dead for a long time. I've listened to them since high school so they'll always hold a special place in my heart....you know, the place where there are sick breakdowns lol

exactly. i feel that way about bleeding through, it dies today, still remains, atreyu (the sing-scream metalcore bands from the early to mid 00s). i wouldn't get into them nowadays, but their music will always be worth a nostalgia visit to me just because they were a nice gateway into metal for me from stuff like creed and trapt. ugh. my taste in middle school used to be so bad.

random TIL, there is apparently a stoner metal band called realms of vision with current/ex-members of animosity and set your goals in it. there's some nice alice in chains/pearl jam/90s hard rock influence thrown in there too that I like. they have a new record coming out this year, but their 2016 EP is pretty solid. czech it out:

Man Set Your Goals aged terribly but Mike was always a good drummer, I’ll give it a listen

hahaha. I have a ton of nostalgia-core bands that me and my college friends will still jam to. ABR is always in there.

    we've got news for you...
