I’m glad you liked it. It’s sitting as my runner up for AOTY behind Shame. My only complaint is the length of the album. Great review!

I’m going to make a general statement:
It’s ok not to like a recommendation someone gives you. Also, the person that gave you that recommendation, along with everyone else, should respect your decision although they might disagree.

So, this record is totally for anyone that loves classic rock and really just rock in general.

The record opens up with this droney, kind of ambient fuzz with floor toms being hit. at this moment im like "ooooooohhh okaaaaaay im ready for this ambient weird stuff", and then when the second track / first song "Spook" started, it was obvious that "Spook" would be the real introduction to what i was in for. Spook is a super catchy, chord heavy rock song. the bass tone is great, and it is all through out the record. there is just a tad bit of fuzz on the bass line which i love. From "Spook" to "King of Bones", the catchy / dark rock songs continue on. the tones and production was great in these early moments on the record, but really didnt give me anything i was into to be honest.
The early portion of the record didnt really grab me until "Haunt". Haunt is a slow burner track that i really dug. im pretty into that slow burning brooding sound that Haunt has. it pulled me in more than the first couple songs did.

when "Echo" starts, a moment where i thought "okay, this is obviously going to explore different territory than the first few songs". the reason being is because right away it was a way more major feel than anything has has up to this point. This song has a super catchy bass line throughout the chorus while there is just a ton of ambience going on in the mix, no guitars in the verse. The last couple minutes of Echo were actually so awesome. there are some strings and stuff that come in, and there is like an almost Explosions In The Sky guitar part that is deep in the mix. This song i dug a ton. like straight up the first couple songs on this record i was like "yeah this is cool, not super for me, but yeah". Echo was the track that made me think "no this is preetty dope actually"
"Ninth Configuration" its placed super well after "Echo". it continues the more major-y vibe in this 7 minute track. Again, this song continues the aspect of this record im more into. the throwback sounding rock and roll in the first couple tracks had me a little worried that this record totally wouldnt be for me.

One thing about this record, is the songs do feel a little long. a song like "Calling Them All Away", follows a formula i usually dig a lot. a couple minutes of droney intro, slow leading into a steady climax which good lead guitars coming in as the track grows. but i dno, i wasnt super enthralled by the droney stuff in the track, so then it just ended up feeling longer than it needed to be, for an otherwise great track. and like i said, im usually super into that stuff, i dont know why it didnt work for me in this track.
Little Thing Gone Wild actually kind of has like a Jack White feel to me which is cool. especially the beginning of the verses.
Circus Bazooko is another example of me thinking the songs are too long. Like there isnt really a climactic moment in the track - however it is the weirdest sounding song on the album, which i dig - but it just seems long.

The record ends strong. All Rise is a highlight on the record. Ending on this piano almost ballad sounding that grows as the time goes. i love when the fuzzed up guitars start coming in around the 320 mark or so. there is a really great build in the song from that point on. This song is a good example of being longer but i feel like the length was necessary.

over all, i think this is a good album. i think people that like this kind of music will love this record. it wasnt totally for me. i know it wasnt totally for me, because again, a lot of my complaints about this album (song length / droney space) are things i like in music. so the fact that im complaining about it here honestly probably just means that it wasnt totally for me because i was hoping the songs would start and finish faster. however, that sounds a lot more harsh than it is. i do think this album was a positive listening experience over all. and it is totally a good album, but probably not one that will draw me back.

okay @BTDandFeelingThis gave me Black Parade by My Chemical Romance and Anthem by Less Than Jake

I know a lot of y'all were surprised that I hadn't heard The Black Parade before and had only heard the title track and Teenagers, I think it's just that this came out like my second month in college and also until recently I never quite gave MCR their proper respect, their aesthetic was always a bit much for me and they were the ultimate Hot Topic band but it was rude of me to say that's a bad thing
Gerard is very talented and has a great voice
I knew that this was a concept album but when listening I didn't really pick up on that element but I don't think I did with American Idiot or Tommy either
I think Disenchanted and House Of Wolves were the other tracks that stood out in particular

    Less Than Jake

I think overall I like Chris' voice but at times it's a bit unpleasant, overall I like this band though, vocals in pop punk/ska are often an issue
The only Less Than Jake albums I'd heard in full were their eps of Grease and TV Theme covers

I think I already knew Science Of Selling Yourself Short and I know Surrender and I believe that I'd heard the Less Than Jake cover too
some songs that stood out: Motown Never Sounded So Good, Best Wishes To Your Black Lung, She's Gonna Break Soon, Plastic Cup Politics

Yeah, I have been! This last week has been crazy. I’ll be getting a review up hopefully soon. My step-dad’s dad passed away today and I’m in the process of moving so it’s been a long few days.
