Stan = super fan, often over the top/ridiculous/unrealistic about whoever they are fanning over.

It always amuses me that “Stan” became an earnest, unironic label super fans apply to themselves when the original Eminem song is about the dark side of being a super fan. Stan killed his wife.

 

Yeah when Stan first started being used in the early 2000s after the song it was an insult for hip hop fans who were obsessed with one artist. In the past few years it's kind of been adapted by people in a sense of being a serious fan of anything
