I could see them doing a headlining run or opening up for Motionless in White. Either way, it’s pretty cool!

Listening to the new Machine Head album. I was kind of into the first few tracks, then I got to "Triple Beam". What the fuck is this??

The Mammoth Grinder record, on the other hand, rips from start to finish.

Thinking about checking out the "Trouble in Texas" festival this weekend, but I'm only familiar with a few of these bands. You guys know anything about these acts?

Saturday line up: GODS HATE, LEEWAY NYC, JUDICIARY, Queensway, Orthodox, Creeping Death, Sanction, Time Walk, Kept in Line, Violent Exit, Facing Worlds, Fatebringer, Leverage

Sunday line up: XIBALBA, KUBLAI KHAN, LEFT BEHIND, I AM, Heretic, Stregthen What Remains, Church Tongue, Sledge, Heavens Die, Minor Morals, Alias, Tooth and Nail, Omission

Leeway is Scott Vogel's favorite band
Kublai Kahn is a sort of newer metalcore act that are making a lot of noise. Their vocalist has a unique vocal style.
Xibalba is another sort of hardcore/thrash crossover act. I think they do some of their songs in Spanish.

Yeah, Xibalba would probably be the draw for me. I kinda know Kublai... saw them do a song or two opening for Hatebreed, but I wasn't in the mood. I'll have to check out Leeway.

Listening now and uh...yeah. The album starts off strong enough but once it hits that track it's pretty much all downhill. There's some solid riffs and drumming peppered throughout even the bad songs but that just makes it all the more frustrating for me.

Like, Machine Head were on such a great kick with their last four records and to go and ruin that streak by releasing a nu-metal album in the year of our lord 2k18 is almost unbelievable. Also, I totally get now what that Decibel review of the album I read was referring to when it mentioned a song that sounds like Machine Head trying to sound like Dropkick Murphys haha.

I actually don't hate this album. Like you said there's some solid riffing and drumming going on... Some catchy melodies/vocal patterns. I don't even really hate some of the more nu-metal sounding stuff... BUT the lyrics (particularly on Triple Beam and Razorblade Smile) are super cringe worthy. It's like stuff I would have written in 7th grade.

The album is a bit bloated (like 70 minutes long) - I feel like Triple Beam should have been cut all together. Eulogy is unnecessary and could have been left off. If they cut those two tracks and rewrote the lyrics for Razorblade Smile, I think it would be a solid B record. Right now, it's a C-

I feel like they'll add another leg to this tour. They're not even playing up here in Seattle and there are no Bay area/LA dates.

For sure. There's no way they don't play the West Coast again before calling it quits.

I'm moderately pissed that I'm going to be in Baltimore for Maryland Deathfest the weekend this shindig hits Chicago, but I guess it saves me from making the 1+ drive out to the south suburbs and dealing with the ampitheatre crowd. Hopefully there's a second leg where they come back through and actually play the city, but I'm not holding my breath.

On my to listen to list when the full stream/album drops. It still baffles me that one of the dudes from At the Gates is involved in a crusty, post-metal project but if the results are good why complain.

I've also heard good things about these guys. Queuing that up now.

Solid blackened speed metal in the vein of old Venom from Chile. Definitely gonna check out the album when it drops in March.

Sucks you'll miss the Slayer show, but I'm sure MDF will be awesome. I'm really only excited for the Slayer show because the venue they're playing here only holds like 4,000 people. Lamb of God/Anthrax sold it out a couple years ago without Slayer.

Had no idea about the At The Gates affiliation. I've just been trying to listen to as much new stuff as possible and came across that and it caught my ear.

Never heard of Whipstriker before, but it sounds good.

Oh for sure, the lyrics are pretty awful. Like, I appreciate that Rob is using his platform to speak out and condemn bigotry and Trump-ism but yeah, the WAY he does it feels so clumsy and, like you said, like something you'd write in 7th grade after first discovering political music. (See: Me, in 8th grade, discovering Anti-Flag haha).

But, I do feel that there's more than enough redeeming moments on this record to keep it far, far away from Illud Divinum Insanus territory (a comparison I'm sure lots of people will be making). More than anything it's just a bummer they broke the hot streak they were on. I'm honestly at the point where Bloodstone & Diamonds is my favorite thing they've released.

I've never actually been much into Machine Head or given any record of theirs the time of day. Are some of their bigger titles worth listening to or am I not missing too much?
