Star Wars Toys Sales Fall With 'The Last Jedi'

 

I need to get into the theaters before it's gone for Viewing 10. I want to get this movie in 4K when it releases. I don't care about having anything physical. To be honest, it's just more stuff to clutter the house. I have enough books without now having DVD's lying around. Does anyone know whether digital movie purchases usually include ancillary material like deleted scenes, commentary tracks, etc? I don't want to miss out on anything. I hope Rian puts out a bitchin' documentary about the making of the movie also. I'm also REALLY hoping Rian puts out some type of photo companion book of all the pictures he took during the filming.

 

Probably because half the Funko products were just reboxing the same molds.

So when I went on Wednesday and since it was early I was the only one in the theater which just felt awesome. I also could take a shit load of notes so I thought Id share. . This will be long so brace yourself.

- crawl said Snoke sends legions to take over the galaxy so really as the movie is going on the First Order is already starting their reign which I hope we will get a good sense of in 9. Also this means that it would make sense that the Knights of Ren could be the ones that are in charge of that. Maybe all spread out taking over different parts of the galaxy.

- In Kylos first meeting with Snoke, I really just feel for Kylo. He was manipulated by Snoke and probably told him hes so special and the next Vader. Then he thinks Luke betrays him and wants to kill him. He kills his father so theres no going back to the light. No more "being torn apart". Now hes even more conflicted and loses to Rey. Snoke betrays his loyalty because hes not strong enough and says "You failed!" and youre just a boy in a mask. "I gave everything I have to you. To the dark side." And now he has nothing.

The next thing he does is fly and attack the Resistance and when the time comes he is about to kill his mom, he realizes that he really has nobody but her now and he still loves her. He may have realized in that moment that he wanted to turn to the only thing he has left. Then she gets shot and at least presumably killed. Not really mentioned if he knows she still alive still. He knows she got sucked out into space.

- Han saying "Snokes using you" then in TLJ Snoke talks about Hux saying "cur's weakness properly manipulated is a sharp tool" then when Snoke talks to Rey about he stalked Kylos thoughts and used his conflicted heart against him to get Rey he finally realizes he’s also a cur. hes just so fucking done being betrayed and feeling worthless. and Rey is the only one left that truly cares about him and also feels exactly like he does. Like nobody wants him. Then he uses Snoke's weakness as a sharp tool and kills him. And kind of finishes what Vader started in way since Vader wanted him and Luke to kill the Emperor and take over the galaxy.

- Rey's journey of self-reliance is so fucking good. Goes to Luke thinking he's the answer. "We need your help. We need Luke Skywalker". We all wanted Luke to take the saber, face the First Order, and show us these legends of Luke are true. She wants him to do what she and we have heard hes done in legends. Pull Star Destroyers from the sky. take out an entire army.

Then "Without the Jedi we dont stand a chance". Then after Luke and Rey fight and talk about Ben and Rey thinks he can be turned to help them beat the FO. Luke once again doesnt take the saber then she says. "Then hes our last hope". She keeps thinking the responsibility to help and defeat evil is incumbent upon somebody else. She thinks shes nothing probably because her parents threw her away. She thinks "shes no-one". "from nowhere". I really think Rey is us. We all think we are nobody. From nowhere. with no special parents. We look to other people. People with power. Presidents. To make real change.

I do wish she had a bigger moment that showed that she cant rely on anyone but herself.

- This brings me to my next point that I really think Rey does KNOW her parents didnt want her. Before she goes in the cave. Right before Kylo says her parents threw her away like garbage she asks Kylo why he killed Han. She says CRYING "he loved you. He gave a damn about you." That would not make sense if she wasnt so hurt that her parents didnt give a damn about her. She thinks shes nobody special because her parents didnt. Shes lived with that fear that her parents simply didnt care and that shame that shes nothing and didnt accept it until Kylo made her say it out loud to admit ti to herself.

- I think people just need to accept Rey's power. Taoism and The Force seeks balance and naturally will balance itself out. With Luke shutting himself off to the force there are literally no known light force users in the galaxy at the moment. There are two of arguably the strongest dark side users ever. The force chose her to have all this power to bring balance. When Luke is teaching her in lesson 1, once she understands it and taps into it the ground around her cracks. Luke says "Ive only seen this raw strength once before". She cant control it but it gives you enough to be able to accept that shes just naturally powerful. If it was a dude, the Mary Sue thing would not be a discussion at all.

- Love how Rose and DJ actually both wear Rose's necklace at one point. representing the two sides of Taoism. The two sides of Finns journey. Sacrifice. Living to fight for someting in Rose. Running away. Living to Survive in DJ

- The writers probably didnt intend any of this, but its an interesting thought that the Blue saber went straight to Rey in TFA and in TLJ they both had control and it broke in half. Maybe the saber wanted to be split in half?

- Anybody know what Phasma says to Finn when she says "You're a ________ in the system?"

- Luke said he came to the island to die. What if he wanted to become a Force Ghost all this time and has been trying and simply couldnt. He couldnt because he was full of shame and conflicted. Only when he was at peace and found purpose again was he able to finally let go and be one with the force like he saw both of his masters do.

- Love the look Hux gives Kylo in the Crait base when they realize they got away and Kylo failed. I feel like hes gotta try to overthrow Kylo or something.

- Love how Rey closes the door on Kylo at the end and immediately after that the dice fades away. Like his only chance at family is gone.

- Lastly, I think another good reason nobody comes to help them on Crait is because of what happened in Bloodline. Rian had a say in Bloodline. I think the fact that Leia says "use my personal signal" or something like that and nobody came is because the galaxy doesn't trust her now since they found out she's Vaders daughter. The "theres no more hope in the galaxy. The spark is out." also works though since its Luke who restores it with what he does.

You’re probably right. Besides Porgs there wasn’t much that people wanted. Almost every character besides Kylo had similar figures.

 

Ahh gotcha. Funny considering the Phasma book. and Thanks again! Despite not being a fan of a lot of the people on it, I'm gonna be starting a YouTube channel soon and am planning doing videos on this movie once its released. Ive already started mapping interweaving themes/principles and how Taoism is riddled in all of it.

I, too, enjoy explanations with “Because he/she is cool”. It adds depth to the question and certainly answers it while simultaneously obviously showing that he isn’t trying to avoid answering it.

 

I, too, demand answers on Twitter and am too lazy to piece things together based on the movie and other official material about the movie. The world owes me, so fuck you.

 

I, too, expect to get questions once I put a living person through the vacuum of space and have them survive because it’s bizarre af.

Pls understand.

I mean, I thought it was a weird and poorly executed scene, but I also think demanding explanations from the creators veers into weird territory.

 

Similar to you, sure. It’s clear the person asking the question wasn’t being annoying or trolling. Johnson could have easily of not been an asshat about it.

He regularly answers question so on Twitter and seems to like to communicate with his fans.

 

He can answer how he wants to? Leia is powerful in the force. Not sure why people need a step by step explanation for every little thing. Must be exhausting for people like Rian.

 

I agree. He can be an asshat to a fan asking a genuine question if he wants to. It doesn’t change the fact that he is being an asshat.
