This is a bit of a straw man. The person isn’t arguing that both parties are the same, he’s saying they should be held accountable for both their past and present positions. We shouldn’t, in other words, settle for a party that often compromises with the right, rather than making space on the left. The reason for the latter is, on an institutional and individual level, democrats don’t want to do that. If, however, folks demanded more and and made a space for the left on their own terms, they might actually get more than crumbs

Yeah, I should have been more clear that the first half of my post wasn't necessarily an argument against this person. But no, of course we shouldn't settle - just saying that it's far easier to take over the party than to try to split off and make a new one (and that it seems likely to happen to me).

  16. To a certain extent. Will the democratic party ever stop taking corporate money and become a member-driven party run through internal democracy? I have a hard time imagining it

I'm not an expert, but how is this not another layer of obstruction? Am I crazy in thinking this is way out of line?

It very well could be (way out of line, that is)

Precisely because Bannon has no privilege here. The privilege belongs to the Executive Branch. So he is on very shaky ground, because the WH has not yet formally invoked privilege.

Basically, he is not answering so as to preserve the WH’s ability to invoke privilege in the future. But that is a pretty flimsy ground to stand on. And I think that you will see considerable pushback if he is indeed coming back for more questioning today and pulls that shit.
