Got back and recovered from AGDQ, if you ever get the chance, go. Watching the runs is 1% of the fun of the event.

How was COD WWII received generally? I just finished the campaign and actually really enjoyed it a lot, the story and characters kept me interested the whole time (though it is short) and the graphics were beautiful

I've always wanted to go to one of those or like PAX's but they scare me away because I would be going alone and it would feel weird.

Just got to the part in Wolfenstein where his head gets chopped off and attached to new body. I already knew about this cause of giant bomb but it’s hilarious seeing it play out lol

Splatoon 2 was the best selling game in Japan last year. People still act like it isn't a huge franchise. I keep hearing people on podcasts say "Mario and Zelda are out so the only one of the big three that is left is Metroid" lmao right

From a Western point of view it is not that big. It is the same as when they talk about the Vita as a failure even though it sells still in Japan.

All that matters is total sales. The Vita's total sales are terrible, Splatoon's are amazing. But that's irrelevant because it actually does really well in the west too.

"As of the end of September 2017, shipments to retailers plus digital downloads reached 1.56 million copies in Japan and 3.61 million copies worldwide."

This does not include international Christmas sales, which apparently have been very good.

Japan it's best market - it is the first console game to sell more than two million copies in Japan in 10 years in - but it's big everywhere. Even Splatoon 1, the WiiU game, has sold more than every Sony first party exclusive except for Uncharted 4 (based on numbers from 2016, I don't know what Horizon sold).

That's the point. It is now easily in the top 5 of most relevant Nintendo franchises and one of the biggest first party IPs across all platform holders.

  11. correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't every Metroid (Prime) so far a pretty huge bomb?
Metroid Prime 4 is my most anticipated game right now, but still, it's only fair to elevate Splatoon into the trinity at this point.

    It's probably like this, UNRANKED:

    Mario
    Zelda
    Splatoon
    Pokemon
    Animal Crossing

If you count Mario Kart and Smash separately it fucks up the whole list once more.

  13. good thing you said unranked I was about to throw a fit that you didn't list Pokémon first haha

Occasionally a Zelda wild outsell Pokemon, but the development costs are higher. Zelda is still a system seller though that attracts people that Pokemon doesn't. It's complicated. On the whole Mario and Pokemon definitely have better sales numbers than Zelda these days, though I think BotW really turned the ship around and I think it helped the Switch a lot.

Of course there's also like Wii Sports and so on, those were gigantic, but the question is if they can make that happen again.

Also, people forget but those 2D Wii Marios did unbelievable numbers.

This might be a hot take but the Switch is selling incredibly well for a console, but in terms of Nintendo handhelds it's nothing very out of the ordinary. That means that the Switch Pokemon games - which will have higher development costs and will possibly (likely) be sold to a lower install base than the DS Pokemon games did for example - might actually be a step down for the franchise.

They're very important for the Switch though. It'll probably give the Switch a huge boost among handheld fans too, I suspect many of them haven't made the jump yet. Same goes for Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing, just on different levels.

  25. so my Frozen Wilds isn't working because apparently euro DLC doesn't play well with US versions of the game.

I call up PlayStation support expecting an easy refund.

they: "well obviously you can't access the DLC because it's for the online mode only."
me: "sir the game doesn't have an online mode."
they: "oh well I don't know the game that well."

    ?????????????????
