Zac Goldsmith tried to win the mayoral election in London for the Conservative Party with anti-Muslim bigotry, in which he attempted to smear Sadiq Khan (of the Labour Party) as an extremist. The Chancellor of the United Kingdom (which currently has a Conservative government) just described this racist campaign as simply a bit of "rough and tumble".

The UK, or England at least, is currently very anti-Muslim. The UK Independance Party are growing and raising fears about refugees and immigration in general. For the most part, the press are very right wing. The BBC in particular give an unfair amount of airtime to UKIP, compared the smaller left parties, like the Greens.

The current opposition, The Labour Party, are currently caught up in an anti-semitism row. With the former mayor of London recently been suspended. Another Labour MP was recently suspended for claiming that Israel should be moved to the United States.

This is a dark time for UK politics. The EU referendum next month is key for the future of Britain and British Politics in general. I fear the way we view the rest of the world will take a turn for the worse if we shut ourselves of from it.

On a similar note, I've gotta say, I will never, ever understand when I see PoC defend white people and say that white people experience racism. I never feel it's my place to call them out for it since I'm white myself (I feel probably shouldn't even really be saying anything about this, frankly), but damned if I don't think that's one of the most fucked up things.

Found it funny in Banks's twitter rant that at times she goes after the half-white part, then at others she hits the Pakistani/Muslim part.

And the sorry not sorry apology at the end just tops it off. I honestly have no clue who this woman is so whatever gets her media attention I guess.

 

Skai Jackson, a 14-year-old Disney channel star, went at it with her last night as well. Banks said some pretty disgusting things, which is not surprising, but good on the girl for standing her ground.

 

Would it be considered ad hominem to call people on this, then? Last thing I wanna do is fuck around and sully my own argument with a logical fallacy - especially since I call people on fallacies constantly. Probably wouldn't have to if the Internet's populace didn't use them so damn much.

I like this opinion because it subtly unravels the accepted racism in large academia...however I find it ironic that the article is written by Western men. We've been saying it forever but ya, we don't need white guys to speak for us. Thanks.
