To be fair, his reply isn't wrong either lol.

Anyway, Trump is often labeled a fascist but I don't know about that TBH. He probably has a lot of liberal views but seems like he just chooses to pander to human dinosaurs because he knows about voting demographics in this country and perception of public image. He actually has a sharp sense of humor and is probably capable of being funny at parties, like the curmudgeony, windbag uncle or grandparent who fucks with everybody. But dude definitely seems to be an opportunist if nothing else. Does anyone know why he wants to be president in the first place?

We know where the other candidates stand - Cruz had the evangelical, "set the country straight and make it more traditional and bland like the 50's" thing going on, Bernie obviously is pushing hardest for social and economic equality, and it's probably safe to assume Hilary shares many views with Bill, who was a decent president.

But Trump's policies are all over the place and so far he's mostly just proven how to be a cartoonish dickhead who approaches national debates and addresses like country club stand-up night/roasts (the idea of which makes me laugh, I admit). What does a guy that rich and successful, who seems to be all about wanting to be rich and successful, want out of the role presidency? I guess he sees himself as the guy needed to fix the economy? Is that what he's about? Aside from going on xenophobic rants for the lols he hasn't given any nuanced details AT ALL that shed light on his actual policies (which have jumped back and forth from blue to red for decades). That along with his unclear motives for wanting to be prez are the main things that are legitimately unsettling about him IMO.

I agree, Trump's track record in the past has been more liberal than he's acting now and I think he just panders to who he thinks is going to give him the best shot, and right now that's the extreme right wing.

That being said, it doesn't make it any less dangerous rhetoric because even if he doesn't believe everything he's saying, the millions of people who are voting for him do.

His rhetoric is definitely concerning right now since it seems to be motivating/empowering his more extreme supporters recently. Whether that would still be the case if he was actually elected is a total mystery to me though because who knows what the guy is really up to. He did kinda implode the old guard GOP after all, lol. He's so loaded with fascinatingly contradictory behavior haha. The one constant, from what I can tell, is that he's a corporate opportunist to the core. It reveals itself in his campaign strategy. His political campaign seems to be less like a vehicle to communicate in detail what he wants to do as a leader of a country and more about...just winning no matter what. But, oddly enough, the way he's gone about it was likely to fail from the get go. Epic trolling in the form of advertising for a new business or entertainment venture confirmed?

Ahahahahahahaha oh my god. Right, because that worked so well for Germany when they did that post-WW1.

Trump quote of the day: "I hope he does a very good job because frankly that would be very, very good. I think if he does a great job, it will really — you lead by example, always led by example. If he does a good job and frankly if he does a great job, that would be a terrific thing."

I can only understand what he says half of the time. Between flip flopping and that mess. Oh, and "we print the money" thing. UGHHH. Printing does not = worth.

Because whenever he says shit, it makes the news, gets more people talking about Trump. It doesn't matter if the news is saying negative things about him, because he has convinced his flock of followers that the Main Stream Media is out to get him and unfairly treating him.

"No publicity is bad publicity" doesn't always work, but in Trump's case it basically does.

  12. On the topic of whether Trump is actually a fascist, the term isn't easily defined at all, but he definitely fits some popular definitions of it:

Of this definition, his ideology as expressed fits: the rebirth myth ("Make America Great Again"), populist ultra-nationalism (immigrants and muslims are destroying our great nation), opposition to liberalism and socialism, and it has at least been placed in opposition to conservatism, whether or not it is actually anti-conservative is debatable I suppose. Doesn't fit the myth of decadence though, if anything he defines decadence.

Community decline, check (opposition to muslims, immigrants, social justice movements)
Humiliation and victimhood, check (obsession with other nations 'showing up' the US, aggressive personal attacks on political opponents and people he doesn't like, the obsession his supporters have with the word "cuck")
Compensatory cults of unity, energy, and purity: see Trump supporters
Mass based party of committed nationalist militants: kind of check. they're not exactly militant, but surely violent
Collaboration with traditional elites: running as a republican, trumps position as a traditional elite himself
Abandoning democratic liberties and pursuance[...]: A lot of this is hard to tell until he is actually in power, but he is certainly an authoritarian and doesn't show the traditional conservative obsession with constitutionality. Internal cleansing for sure: export all illegal immigrants. External expansion, Trump doesn't exactly have a lebensraum in mind, but he is certainly an imperialist and seeks to exercise power abroad, see: carpet bombing ISIS.

This racism is not actually so explicit as traditional fascism. Hitler would never pretend that Jews weren't the problem by eating Matzoh Ball Soup and saying "I love Jews!," but there are certainly coded ideas of racial purity present in his ideas.

A certain pop historian came up with the following 14 points of fascism. This is not an academic or scholarly work, but is worth examining:
    Powerful and continuing nationalism, covered.
Disdain for human rights: see advocating of torture and murdering of ISIS' families.
Scapegoating: See Muslims, immigrants, social justice movements.
Supremacy of the military: standard for most right-wing US politicians, Trump is no exception.
Rampant sexism: "women should be punished for having abortions," see demographics of Trump supporters.
Controlled mass media: dependent upon Trump's being in power, BUT, see his threats to sue journalists that publish negative things about him.
Obsession with national security: see banning Muslim immigration.
Religion and government are intertwined: already quite true in the US, don't see Trump doing much to change that. Corporate power is protected: Trump is the embodiment of corporate power, has no concerns with breaking up banks or monopolies.
Labor power is suppressed: see Trump's treatment of unions in his own corporate ventures.
Disdain for intellectuals and the arts: see total lack of concern for education.
Cronyism & corruption: dependent upon being in power.
    Fraudulent elections: see above.

The kicker is this, though, which is an enduring opinion to varying extents:
Who is or is or not a fascist is the farthest thing from defined, so it is totally unsurprising that Trump doesn't fit perfectly into any of these molds. But he fits pretty well into just about all of them, soooo....

Perhaps bernies chances would be more realistic if people voiced support and/or voted for him before he was effectively eliminated? Not that she explicitly said she'd vote for him, but this "he's unelectable" narrative drives me nuts.

Yeah, I mean, that stuff is imbedded in his rhetoric for sure, but it seems debatable at best if he really is that person. He's likely just having fun being a ringmaster of the expansive shitshow going on right now, and off camera he isn't really the guy he is on TV and SM. But the response/actions from all his extremist supporters who are being dog-whistled by him is dangerous and concerning no doubt.

  21. I mean, all of that is guessing. All we can go by is what he says and does. And regardless, the popular movement behind those ideas is the scariest part

    I'm Back.

I haven't read this thread but what I wanted to say was this:

With all of the bullshit he's been saying, people need to realize that he won't be able to do half of what he says. Sure, he can executive order some things, but if congress doesn't want it to happen, and if his orders are perceived as "bad", Trump can be impeached...or at least start that process.

Plus, if congress can get Trump in check from the get-go, I don't think there will be any issues, unless Trump does what I stated above. But then again I don't think he's THAT arrogant.

There are a lot of stupid people out there that will vote for him based on his "antics" and clashing personality; and there is an equal amount of people who will NOT vote for him for those same reasons.

History is going to look back at the past eight years as the time when America got overly irrational and racist about the first black president of the United States, unless they try to suppress that information in history textbooks.
