It's definitely a good point of social commentary that's being made through these movies. Though, I still find Starkiller Base to be lazy. The point is already being better made through Kylo's character and the more extremely and violent nature of the First Order storm troopers.

I'm in the process of reading Bloodline right now, and this lines up perfect. Leia reacts to seeing old empire relics in someone's office (can't remember his name right now) and her reaction is exactly the reaction someone would have if they had nazi memorabilia hanging in their office.

Thanks! Yeah, the excuses he had for displaying it reminded me a lot of the excuses people have used for keeping the south's civil war monuments displayed.

Are you liking the politics behind it so far? I think the part you mentioned is chapter 3 So you only just started but I think the book is the best execution of that aspect in all of Star Wars (that I’ve consumed at least).

If you don’t have a fan casting for him already Claudia gray said she based the appearance of the character off of Tom Hiddlston which is who I used.

It's a little slow to start, but it's picked up in the last chapter I read (4 I think). Also, Tom works perfect! I had an idea in my head, but I think picturing him will help. I'm having a hard time picturing older Leia instead of younger though.

Lol same! It kept bothering me. It was young Leia because her personality was very much like her but then she talks about her age a lot which shoots me to TFA Leia. She looks so different so I really just kind of went with ROTJ Leia with grey hair.

Yeah they also put ROTJ looking Leia on the front of the book, so that makes it even more confusing.

Intersting info/quotes from JJ about Nazi influence:

But how, exactly, are Snoke and Ren related to the fallen Empire? It seems that they are part of the First Order, which is not so much a remnant from the Empire as it is an imitator.

“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’” Abrams said in the interview.

“What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

@Dodger I like what you’re asking about Kylo & Vader. Does he really know why Anakin became Vader? I haven’t read much of the cannon books yet (I need to, been so busy lately), so I can’t speak to those.

I'm very interested in how the First Order rose to power from the ashes of the Empire, but I've heard bad things about the Aftermath trilogy.

Ive only read 3 books, but Im pretty sure theres nothing like that yet, as we would know about it by now. While I agree we dont need every backstory to every character and every gap in the SW timeline to be filled (Han Solo/Boba/Yoda), I think that its kind of an important aspect to see the catalyst that made Ben (the son of 2 of the most iconic heroes in film history) turn fully to the dark side.

Also I think in life in general the simple fear of something ironically ends up causing that very thing a lot of times, so Leia and Han hiding the information for the fear hell become Vader, inevitably caused it because they hid it from him. It would be a very intriguing concept to delve deeper into.

Although I would prefer it, I dont even need it in a movie necessarily. A book about Luke and Ben's adventures before he turned where he finds out about it. A book about Snoke or something where he discovers the grandson of Darth Vader. Hopefully well get it in the next book series "Journey to Episode 9: Broom Kid Boogaloo."

Not sure if this has been discussed yet, but I've had this thought since TFA and wondered if they would ever touch on it:

Nobody but Luke knows that Vader turned at the last minute at the end of ROTJ. If that came out somehow (I guess Luke missed his chance lol) would that change how Ren feels about idealizing his grandfather and the dark side?

Ohhhhh, I missed that then because I don't recall that at all. I'll just have to watch it again :-)

Just thought it might be an interesting bit to touch on if they wanted to, thanks for the answer!

I highly suggest you read/listen to bloodline. That secret is a big plot point and it’s fascinsting as hell

We still don’t know how ben found out/his reaction, but I think somewhere we found out that kylo knows Vader turned and thinks he just failed

Ah, thank you! Yeah, I think it'd be awesome to see his reaction, esp if it came from someone like Luke or Rey during a confrontation.

Seems like something they just glossed over though.

Finally saw this for the third time. At this point the only thing I actively dislike is when Rose and BB8 are on the ATST and she says “Need a ride!?”

Other than that, this keeps getting better for me.
