Yeah, I'm a casual poster in this thread, but I just came in here confused at all the animosity. I can't tell if it's playful or not, but doesn't look good for, as I said earlier, a casual poster who comes in every so often to catch up on VG talk.

storm put a dig at a user, by name, who had blocked her. in an unrelated post about EA. it's pettiness being fought with pettiness. and then everyone circlejerked over @Colby Searcy drawing attention to how poorly users can treat each other in this thread, meanwhile colby is one of the nicest people around.

 

I bought Overcooked Gourmet Edition the other day for like $7. Played a little bit by myself to test it out, kind of impossible to play solo. But I think I've convinced my girlfriend to play it with me. Will be her first Xbox game ever played!

 

What's on everyone's menu for Q1 2018?

Monster Hunter isn't my cup of tea, so I only see Far Cry 5 in my future. Surely I have to be missing something?

 

should I start Bioshock Collection or Prey next? Never played either.

 

Bioshock, for sure. Then you'll play Prey and think to yourself, "Man, this game tried so hard to be Bioshock." Actually, maybe play Prey first, so you can see what a truly good game can be later when you play Bioshock.

Bioshock series was fantastic. Had a lot of fun with those 3 earlier this year.

 

It's JRPG right? None of those types of games have ever clicked with me (Xeno, FF, etc.)

Nice! I had been wanting to buy it for us to play and saw it was on a crazy sale so had to scoop it up. I've been looking for a few games that we can play together and that seemed to be a popular suggestion from my research.

Yakuza 6 and Burnout Paradise if it happens

 

it's actually far from it, it's a gear/loot based third person action RPG in the style of something like a Dark Souls. 90% boss fights and learning enemy patterns and such, but it is very very rewarding and satisfying.

 

It's technically an RPG made in Japan but it's definitely not what I assume you think it is. It's more like Dark Souls than Dragon Quest or whatever.

 

i played like 30 minutes of shadow of mordor last night and i totally do not understand how this game works. from the arkham-style combat, i assumed it'd be basically hack-and-slash, but from what i gathered from responses to my tweet last night, it's almost the exact opposite. very strategic/stealthy. the game just has a lot of obtuse systems, it seems like? like i died once and then all of a sudden all this shit happens, and enemies get even stronger, which is kinda discouraging... knowing that if i die, it's only going to get harder is pretty stressful.

 

you get some powerups that break the game and any need for stealth pretty quickly, and then it's much more of the beat 'em up you were expecting

 

Good to know, but yeah, Dark Souls didn't work for me either. Give me another game like Witcher III and I'll be sold.

 

my biggest issue with SoM is that the entire map is infested with enemies. there's no break from the combat and no real exploration segments, i'd enjoy the game a lot more if i got to explore and appreciate the beautiful world a little more.

 

I can't wait for Monster Hunter
