Started playing .hack//GU last recode. Enjoying the first game so far, though the MC is a bit too much of a dick to like...everyone.

 

I just played Firewatch. Man, the anxiety levels...

 

I just used the horse to basically climb a mountain so I wouldn't be forced to actually go through the dungeon to get a word in skyrim.

 

the achievement just popped up right now while I was in whiterun so ok nice I guess

the achievement was for beating the winterhold questline

 

Not sure who plays on what systems. I own both the one and a ps4 (though I rarely use the ps4). Figured I'd throw my gamer tag out there in case anyone wants to play. I own damn near everything on Xbox.

The best story GB discussion is making me feel like I have to play Night in the Woods.

 

I'm still watching the best surprise segment and Alex saying "I'm not gonna plant my flag for fire pro wrestling world" and then right after plant his flag for it was hilarious.

 

I was half asleep so I didn't notice what was the last cut before final four in best surprise but it was a good top 4.

I think if I was to make the list off their options with a top 5 it be PUBG, Sonic Mania, Mummy, RE7 and then Star Fox 2.

I feel like Jeff point about how it was basically a game that got brought back from the dead is honestly huge. The rest of the crew seemed to be like yeah true and then quickly move on.

How much of Firewatch would I be missing out on if instead of playing it myself I watched someone else play it on Youtube?

 

All this GOTY content out there, including the two best moments segments from Giant Bomb I just listened to, make me think that video game media people need to read more literature

 

Also shout out to Abby for fighting for Bury Me, My Love. You know, the one with the great writing about ACTUAL, FACTUAL HUMAN TRAGEDY instead of nerd nonsense vaguely tied to "current events".

 

The bar for what people call a good story in video games is significantly lower than any other medium, for sure.

 

I think that wouldn't even be a problem if they wouldn't talk about them as if they were talking about great American novels or whatever lmao

 

literally the worst take in the thread, there are so many criteria for being "awful" that this game does not meet, come on now

 

There's awful stuff in there that I could see turning people off of the game completely. It's a well made JRPG though, at least that's the consensus (I haven't played it, but that team makes good games so I believe it).

 

Haven't had a chance to hook up my Switch to the TV, but I really like it so far.

1. Zelda is beautiful. I've only reached the first puzzle, and I felt very overwhelmed, so I put it down. I don't think the puzzle will be ~hard~, per say; just wasn't in the mood for using my brain after work. Can't wait to see what it looks like on the TV.
2. I played one match on Splatoon 2. Cute! Fun! Not worth $60, but it's okay.
3. Started Stardew Valley. Sooooo cute. Can I marry all the girls in the game? Is that an option?? Seems like a good way to wind down and relax though.
4. I'm REALLY BAD AT ROCKET LEAGUE

Persona 5 is not awful jfc

tbh I think a big part of that game is how beautiful the art is, which on one hand I suppose you could appreciate just as well in a video, but on the other I feel like I really loved exploring it all myself. personally though I'll always vote for playing a game yourself, because Firewatch especially is an emotional experience.

 

Persona 5 is a fucking chore with minimal narrative reward and largely unlikable characters.

I.e. awful.
And that’s just my opinion man, you think I don’t want to like it? I loved persona 4 way back when.

 

Haru, Boss, and Yuske are very interesting characters imo

 

It’s the “imo” part that’s key here. I find all of them to be insufferable
