  1. They were very shot up and you could ask that about every spaceship battle ever.

I guess when I saw the x-wing submerged underwater for what was implied to be around 20-30 years I took that to mean it was likely no longer functional

Except finn dragged rose back to the base on foot as they no longer had functioning vehicles after rose stopped Finns kamikaze. They were easily a few miles away.

Legit question. How much do those inconsistencies/implausibilities affect your opinion of the quality of a movie/your enjoyment of it?

For my friends it seems to be a very harmful in how they view it. I will say I do think the movie has a lot of them and i can’t fault anybody for thinking less of the movie for them. For me though it affects both my enjoyment/opinion of the quality very very little. Only because when I do notice on that first viewing it may take me out but I brush it off pretty easily.

I think it might matter more in a movie grounded in our reality, but even so believability or continuity just isn’t a big deal to me unless it’s ridiculous.

That’s right, my b. Still took the shot to establish Luke’s isolation: his iconic ship is unusable, another severed connection between him and the rest of the galaxy

Compared to the time it took them to get out there, he dragged her back pretty quick.

Edit: not that it really bothered me, did seem a little off though.

Tbf, even if it had been 20 years or whatever? Why would it necessarily be unusable? It’s meant to be sealed for space. It’s possible he purposefully got rid of fuel. But I could have bought him raising it out and flying it to Crait.

I’m glad he didn’t though. This way worked so unbelievably well and brought things full circle.

I mean, it would take one little laser blast to blow away the First Order defector, but somehow he drags another person all the way back to the base on foot in just a few minutes unscathed, while that trip took even longer in a ship. Thats a pretty big plot hole no matter how you look at it. This film is full of them. Im fully aware all films have them, but they just seemed so much more apparent to me.

For me, the main plot point is a plot hole. Why is the resistance worried about fuel. They are in space. They werent accelerating, so they will remain at a constant speed until they are stopped by an outside force. Its not like once they run out of fuel, the ships are just going to stop in their tracks. Additionally, while I understand the First Order couldnt track the small ships that were evacuating, but they were visible to the naked eye... If Holdo just told her plan to Poe (the lose cannon), he wouldnt have run off and concocted his own plan like a lose cannon would do when they think there is no plan. I keep seeing this film touted as the smartest Star Wars film, when there really wasnt anything smart about it at all. It was inconsistent and kinda lazy to be honest.

If you start letting specifics like fuel consumption bag at you, you’re introducing a huge slew of other problems with the logic behind the entire franchise and with most other science fiction (I know this is space fantasy) material in existence.

I probably wouldnt have an issue with it if it was a small obstacle or plot device, but it is literally the entire plot to the film... Just bad writing really

There is a difference between legit complaints with a movie and nitpicks... and I’m kind of 100% done with one of them.

I’d recommend people pursue something that they have joy in this time of year. But that’s just me. Any negative points will still be there after the holidays. But I’m done with it all for the next couple days.

I’m gonna go watch Christmas Vacation. Merry Christmas and happy holidays, everyone.

Smartest conceptually. Most intellectually provocative is probably what is meant by that.

Also did it say they weren’t accelerating? I thought they were.

I think it’s easy considering the scope of these massive ships and how far away they were shown to at least believe they were small enough they couldn’t be seen. That dynamic is in a lot of canon.

It’s easy for me to believe holdo not telling Poe considering the human aspect. Her first association of Poe is a hot headed pilot who disobeyed direct orders and sacrificed a huge aspect of the fleet that’s already small. Despite a honorable effort, she’s probably pissed at him. Then he comes to her feeling entitled to know everything and actually telling her what she needs to do.

It’s easy to see why she’s dismissive. Leaders can’t entertain every opinion from people thinking they could do it better. Especially somebody who is really just a pilot. On top of that think about how often leaders tell their entire plan to every member of a huge crew. Especially when you are being chased and you need to make quick decisions. Time is of the essence and arguing about what to do next and entertaining every opinion wouldnt be smart. That’s unrealistic. You tell your plans to the people who need to know.

I get the complaint and maybe could’ve been executed better but I don’t think this is a plot hole. It makes sense in the context of situation.

The First Order needed to save all that ammo for Luke. None to spare for Finn.

Also I’m with @Greg I’m done with these types of conversations. Leia shouldn’t have been able to open the door. Phasma teleported unharmed across the hangar. There are holes in every movie. Even the best. Watch cinemasins (but actually dont). Not directing this at anybody specifically but people need to focus on finding the good shit in movies and if you can’t find the good in this movie then that sucks because there is a lot.

    Happy holidays everybody!

I agree. Even though looking for the good over bad in movies isn't very popular on this site, esp in any DC thread lol.

Aha, no matter what points are made or what numbers are posted, you guys are seriously going to bat for this movie in every way possible. It was a good movie, but it fell short of expectations and the storyline really doesn't do it for a large portion of Star Wars fans. I don't think that's that hard to accept.
