Poe starts the movie off. Has a scene talking to Leia about him not being a leader. Then one with Holdo. Then with finn and rose and the one who organizes that mission. Then fights with holdo throughout the movie. Leads a mutiny. Leads them on Craig and ends up fulfilling a fu arc of finally becoming a leader and allowing the rebellion to escape. He was a main character in my eyes.

Snoke was in 3 scenes including the hologram one with hux. Just because he’s powerful doesn’t mean he’s more of main character

Sure convient to only listen to someone when you want to agree with what they're saying.;-p

Either way, Mark's first statement I clearly think is wrong having seen the film, and his second one makes far more sense.

    Just a friendly reminder

People are presuming that Mark Hamill was way more upset with the treatment of Luke than he actually was. Just because he disagreed the first time he read the script doesn't mean he was angry or that he ended up hating the movie. Also, people put more stock into Mark Hamill's opinions on Luke than they should. The ideas he had for his introduction in TFA were cool fan fiction ideas but would not work in the film. Just because he's deep into the character doesn't mean he's a good writer.

Snoke had a big long (epic) scene that has major ramifications to the main story. Poe has scenes where he's sharing a sub-plot to the larger story, where he's on par with newbie Laura Dern, who are basically escaping from General Hux. Carrie Fisher has a bigger role than Poe and this wasn't even meant to be HER episode (episode 9 was). Is she a 'main character' in this?

How many 'main characters' are there? Because the more you count beyond Luke, Rey and Kylo, then the more underwhelming this film becomes.

Hamill's idea for ROTJ was for Luke to show up with a mohawk and an earring so, ya, I'll pass on his ideas. LOL.

  9. I hadn't seen that exact one. I tried to tell everyone!

He said they also tossed in some positive reviews so their “scent can be thrown off.” The unspecified program he claimed they used to create the bots wasn’t “100% efficient,” and some of those reviews accidentally landed on the “Shape of Water” page instead. HuffPost confirmed that both positive and negative “Last Jedi” reviews appeared on the Rotten Tomatoes page for “The Shape of Water” and that they seem to have first appeared on the night of the “Last Jedi” release.

For example, a user named Kevin W gave “The Shape of Water” a half-star and said, “If you are a true fan of Star Wars. This is the worst movie ever in the Star Wars franchise. Thank you Disney for making an epic Saga for fucking two year olds. Where every two seconds there’s a quip and a joke that is not Star Wars.”

    :crylaugh: Children. Literal man children.

Bigger role? Leia was passed out half of the movie and had to ramifications to the story at all other than shoot Poe and to give somebody else the reins.

I get what you mean with Snoke but hes still only in 1 long scene where all he does is torture rey, hit her with a lightsaber, and then dies, one scene with Kylo alone, and one mini appearance iwth Hux. I think Poes sub-plot of making sure the Resistance doesnt die has some pretty big consequences.

Oh found a good explanation as to why “luke left a Map to himself If he didn’t want to be found”

Apparently the Map in tfa that’s everyone is looking for is the map to the first Jedi temple not just to luke. People just knew that’s where luke would be, so that’s why they called it the “Map to luke skywalker”

FFS, are we really discussing who is and isn’t a main character?

    Dear lord

  15. This makes zero sense. Especially when your first argument was there wasn't character growth and yet Luke, Rey, Kylo, and Poe all see very clear character moments/growth. So does Rose and to a lesser degree so does Finn.

  16. On this week’s episode of Encore I am joined by special guest Thomas Nassiff to talk about one of our favorite topics: Star Wars. This episode is full of spoilers all about Star Wars: The Last Jedi, so I would highly recommend you see the movie before listening. We give our thoughts on the film, break down favorite and least favorite scenes, and talk about catching up with favorite characters, both old and new. Also porgs.

    And we're live!

Also, Luke didn’t plan to necessarily kill Ben that night. He went to feel him out and see what was going on inside him. Which would be easier with him asleep as his guard would be down.

Unfortunately, Luke wasn’t prepared for how far gone Ben was and old instincts kicked in for a moment. But to say he specifically planned to kill Ben in his sleep is overlooking a couple key parts of how events went down, at least from Luke’s certain POV.

I feel bad for people who didn’t like the movie, whether they have legit issues with it or not.

I’ve seen it three times and each time something else has hit me and made me cry. That doesn’t happen, well, ever for me. I don’t agree with every decision made, but this was a powerful movie and I am so glad it is exactly how it is because of all that.

I know this sounds condescending, I truly don’t mean it to be. I am truly bummed that something that so greatly impacts me rings negative for others.

Nothing about Luke's character in this particular movie other than maybe his death is surprising, shocking, bold or even controversial. He was a hero who then experienced a series of enormous failures. To portray him as anything but a jaded, depressed, angry and bitter guy just doesn't make sense narratively.

I don’t think it’s condescending. When I don’t enjoy something (not about SW of course) I get bummed out that I don’t see what everyone likes in that thing. It’s always from a place with being sad I’m missing out rather than feeling superior that I don’t like it.

Are we going to see a funeral for Leia or see some kind of memorial? I wonder if she would be buried on Naboo with Padmé.

Okay, did we watch the same movie? In the real version of the story, Luke made an instinctive move to kill his nephew and then stopped. You know who else did that with? Vader. He also nearly burned down the Force Tree in an impulsive decision and stopped at the last moment. Maybe you don't understand Luke Skywalker as much as you feel you do.

Poe's story still felt like it was a sub-plot shared with Leia and then Holdo. It's like they gave these guys something to do whilst we get invested with Rey, Kylo and Luke. I understand it's obviously not all about 'power' but at same time even slight difference of more screen-time doesn't indicate a 'main character'.

If Poe's a main character then almost everyone in this can be called one. From Kylo, Luke, Rey, Finn, Rose, Leia, Snoke. And if that's the case then I still protest only Kylo, Luke, and Rey really shined in this film. But again, that bit is probably more my subjective opinion on just the 1 viewing anyway. Besides, I grew up a big fan of episode 3 Anakin (which is controversial enough) so y'know, lol.

Also at first it was just over a vision but when he looked inside a second time he saw just how evil Kylo was and that he was already corrupted. He turned his Saber on thinking about helping people but then realized it was wrong, ben wakes up and believes he’s being attacked.
