Nobody's been able to offer a coherent explanation for Rey's parents, or killing Snoke, without sounding like this either.

I think the amount of showing that fans are asking of these films would create an amount of expositional bloat that would turn the New Trilogy into a retread of the prequels. The film explained the conflict and doubt that Luke's reputation as the Legend that Turned Vader gave him fairly well. I think there is a misconception that Luke's original growth in the OT made him some sort of perfect hero, which has been somewhat validated in the EU. I think the great thing about the film's message that anyone can be a hero goes both ways. Any person can be a hero and our heroes are just people.

That being said, I understand the argument and it's reasonable for those who are more interested in the minutiae of Star Wars lore. I enjoy the world building of the franchise but I also just really love the broad strokes. I don't have many arguments that can satisfy the lore junkies.

  3. I think the reason Rose got him out of there was precisely because that was fucking stupid. he would've just died in the laser and that cannon would've still shot. I think if there's a common thread in the movie it is that all these thoughtless heroics just cause more harm than good.

    what do you mean?

    Things have changed.

Do you want them to say "In my opinion" before every sentence?

I haven't seen anyone explain to me why Snoke dying was bad, or why Rey coming from nobodies was bad, without sounding "like a bummed out fanboy who's head-canon has been compromised."

I think what fully prevented me from enjoying it was the onslaught of attempted humor. I just became annoyed and maybe that has made me just look at alot the plot points and moments through a negative lens.

  7. oh yeah, concur 100%

that said, we still don't know if Kylo was just fucking with Rey ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

So tell me something awesome Supporter

I want to add that I'm SO glad Rey wasn't wishcasted into being a Skywalker/Solo or anything of that sort. It would've felt like such overkill

Like I said a few pages ago, Rey is the one that said it first, not him, and even if he had said it first, I am 100% certain that it was Johnson's intention that this be the truth. Whether JJ will change that or not is unsettled, but as of now Rey's parents were nobodies.

  10. the same Rey that thought she saw a future for Kylo Ren that Snoke put in her head?
    ;)

    she getting plaaaaaayed (I think!)

I think that is an understandable reason to not enjoy the movie. I appreciated that the humour existed and laughed a lot but if the comedy doesn't work for a person, I can imagine it would definitely take them out of the movie.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I really hope JJ doesn't change it so Rey's parents are important.

That's also not how I took that situation, either. Snoke said he built the bridge between them, he never said, or even implied, he planted visions.

If I could just forget it

He knew the most about that weapon, so I assumed he knew what he was doing and was actively trying to destroy it.

To your second point I find that funny, since the voice of reason did EXACTLY that by ramming a ship at light speed as a desperation move.

  15. seriously don't beat yourself up about it, this was essentially a comedy with deep lore, so if you don't enjoy the humor this film just wasn't for you.

I think some of Rey's visions have yet to happen.

  17. oh wow looks like i might've head-canon'd a little myself there haha! something to watch for on my 2nd viewing.

I still wouldn't discount the possibility that both Kylo's and Rey's visions were correct. Would be kind of abrupt after how this movie ended, but it's still possible.

I don't recall it going that way, at least. Could be wrong.

We reach for the longest shadow

Do we still believe Snoke was the one connecting Kylo and Rey? They had another moment in the end after Snoke died, so...

  21. ah, good point.

That said I think it was dumb luck that the ship did so much damage to that huge star destroyer, I think she was mainly trying to be a distraction.

  22. he said so himself. not sure if Snoke being alive is a prerequisite to the tether remaining.

    “The greatest teacher, failure is”

Agreed. with mescalineeyes. If the comedy soils it for you, that happens.

For me I can talk about the movie without end, but I can say one of my favorite things about this movie is the amount of themes and messages interweaving throughout the length of the movie and through different characters. Ill post something I posted earlier

The character arcs are wonderful and with the amount of characters/themes/movie elements in general he had to juggle, the amount of good allows me to ignore the very little that bothered me.

  24. so the way I understood it was that snoke tethered them for rey to see the vision, I might've misinterpreted that as putting the vision there in the first place.

We reach for the longest shadow

yeah I know he said it, but maybe it was happening anyway and Snoke just took credit for it. He seemed overly full of himself where he could be blinded by it, obviously.
