HOW THE HELL IS THAT MOVIE CONSIDERED PREDICTABLE

  2. I think people just really enjoy feeling intellectually superior by not enjoying a Star Wars movie.

I literally ran through every scenario over two years of what I thought this movie could be and it surprised me the entire way through..

Zero chance anyone predicted Snoke would die and the Rebels would fail every mission.

Yeah and everyone who suggested Rey’s parents being nobody did so as like a toss-off, like “I guess this could happen but no way is that going to be it.” Like the last entry of every listicle on the subject.

maybe the rebels would fail their missions bc it was supposed to be a first order dominated film.. but the snoke thing..

Ah I don't think I've mentioned it here.. that was ruined for me walking in the theater a guy yelled "how can they kill snoke in the second movie!" as he was leaving. I was soo mad, ended up being a minor spoiler and I doubted if it was true up until the moment I saw it.. still upset about that tho..

I need to see this again, tomorrow morning feels like a long time away...

Yeah I’m always super wary of people leaving the theater when I go to see movies. Zero regard for anyone around them. That really sucks.

in the end I just feel like her parentage was never meant to be a big deal. They never once mention it in TFA. like she never poses the question who are my parents? until this movie.. we can see she is struggling with her identity but I feel that a lot of the stuff that we made questions up about were made in our own minds?

We live in this weird era where we need to know everything about everyone

Look at A New Hope.. we had no idea who darth vader was, we just knew he was some super badass villain and that was good enough for people. No one was sitting there before Empire speculating who he could be. then we get Mr. Sidious in Empire and we again know nothing about him, and no one cares. Now we have Snoke who dies and we dont get his back story so people are up in arms, it doesn't matter hes not important, he was just an obstacle for kylo to overcome. Kylo Ren is the important character here and I want to see how he develops into THE villain, we are going to get to see Kylo Rule over the galaxy something that Vader never did. It makes his character new and interesting and I believe that IX is going to be one of the best of this series and make this movie make more sense to people.

    I mean, I get it.

EVERY fan theory video said Luke would toss away the saber. They all said Snoke would die in this one. They all said Luke would force project a fight with Kylo. All of them said Luke wanted to kill Ben and that’s what caused him to fully turn.

Totally predictable. Zero stars. Shit movie.

funny thing is we were wary, but this guy was a straggler. the theater came out and we moved away from them and waited for the crowd to clear.. after the crowd cleared we walked over to our theater only to be greeted by one guy who stayed behind leaving his, and thats when the spoiler happened. I was really mad, i started texting friends who had scene it and asked if it was real and they ignored me bc they knew if they answered it would give it away.

While the movie never directly implies her parents were famous... the saga has been all about those type of connections for 7 movies.

With rey, her deepest desire was to get back with her family. Everyone thought that one look from Han implied something, but I think he just felt bad for her. Maz asks, “who’s the girl?” And they cut away. The Skywalker saber calling to her.

I can see why people thought there would be more, but I also see how all of those mean other things and don’t need to point to a connection with who her parents are.

I literally walked around the theater with headphones in blasting Thrice. There was no fucking way some dipshit ignorant clown was going to spoil anything for me at that point.

I know, I told all my friends to do that moving forward and I'll be doing that for IX.

can't be made fun of Prestigious

i have very little to add to this discussion other than to share my most horrible theater experience ever.

on Thursday around lunch my friend asked me if i wanted to go see this at 7 PM. i assumed he had tickets secured and was like "sure". he clarified that he was planning to walk up at 6 and purchase tickets. i said "there's no way that's happening" and he assured me that he knew this particular theater like the back of his hand and that there is no way it would all sell out with how many screens they had dedicated to meeting demand. he was wrong, and we opted to try another day rather than wait for the 10:45.

on Sunday night we tried it again as walkups. he got out at 6:30 so we went to an 8 o'clock showing, where we got in but could only find seats front row, dead center. we made it halfway through previews before deciding not being able to see the top of the screen even at a 45 degree tilt wasn't an ideal way to consume film. i told him we should move, and he found one pair of seats that was one row back all the way to the right.

i was very high and had to literally twist my head all the way to the left to watch the movie, and i got a major migraine from my eyes trying to adjust to their new temporary definition of "forward". ten minutes in, i closed one eye to alleviate the pain, and by minute 20 i had opted to sleep away my misery.

i don't consider myself to have seen TLJ

    i give TLJ 0/10

Didn’t mean to suggest you weren’t being wary, just saying that that’s my biggest fear at the theater so I always am as well.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I brought in headphones to use in the lobby while I waited for the movie to start. I'm always paranoid during big releases that someone will spoil something on their way out.

    “The greatest teacher, failure is”

Ill disagree that "The dark side" tries to manipuate the force to their own means. My interpretation of that is that the Sith tries to manipulate the force to their own means.

I do wish that was something that was touched upon in this movie but still love that they went into it at all. The dark side in my opinion is emotion. fear. attachment. Thats why the Jedi who was a religion of the light side notoriously tried to shut off those things. But all those things are necessary for a balanced life. Love is attachment. Thats why they couldnt get married and have kids. If you have no emotion, no love, no attachment to anything the lack of that festers into something ugly (Priests sexually abusing kids). Too much light and IMO thats why eventually people like Anakin/Dooku/Ventress/Kylo go dark.

Imo thats why Kylo has his tantrums too. He wants to be dark so bad that he lets his emotions loose in an UNBALANCED way just to force himself into the dark side.

Im a firm believer in the philosophy of Taoism because its not a religion really. Its a principle. Our bodies even follow the principle. Ph balance (Alkaline/Acidic). Nervous system (parasympathetic/sympathetic nervous system) (Catabolic hormones/Anabolic hormones). The micro biome in the gut needs both good and bad bacteria. Too much of any of this and the body is unbalanced and doesnt perform well.

Edit: also these types of conversations are why I love Star Wars over a lot of mythology

true story my friend was driving me home from a bar one night and i was pretty drunk, he asked if we wanted to stop on the way home and see the dark knight rises, i was like whatever. i walked into the theater as another showing was letting out and i saw someone with a giant tub of popcorn seemingly untouched just leave it on their seat.

i like to tell myself that sober i wouldnt have even touched it, not knowing who they were. but drunk me enjoyed a $14 tub of popcorn for free and i'm still alive so it's a victory.

I'm not surprised people start shouting stupid (and inconsiderate) stuff as they're leaving the theater. The lady in front of me was pissed at the end because "it was nice to see the whole gang back together, but there was no HAN SOLO!!!" Uhhhhh.
