    It does though.

But if @CoffeeEyes17 was offended, I apologize and will do my best to not use terms like that in that context.

I agree whole heartedly and have learned to love that aspect of the film now upon 2nd/3rd viewing. From a tonal aspect it feels to contrasted to the rest of the film for me personally. Wasnt a fan of the dialogue through a lot as well.

Just curious were you of fan of how BB8 was used on their mission? him tying up guards, shooting coins and blowing the smokev(did love the creature putting the coins in though) , and the AT-ST all were things I didnt like. I imagine kids ate it up though.

I get why Greg wouldn't be interested in KOTOR stuff, but even as someone who hates over-explainy prequel material and hasn't experienced/doesn't have nostalgia for that era... I'd love to see a film in that era.

Like, I agree that looking forward at this point is more exciting than looking back, but KOTOR is one of a few exceptions for me (along with an Obi Wan film and a Darth Vader film). I think there's a lot of cool stuff to mine there within a cinematic context. And, since Disney isn't gonna pump the breaks on these films anytime soon, might as well do that and look forward in alternating turns, right?

I loved all of those things other than tying up the guards, which was a little much

I would be more open to alternating, but so far all the stand alones are looking back. Which to be fair, is only 2 officially. But between Obi-Wan and Fett having strong rumors, it doesn’t seem like that is their strategy at the point. It is “present” day films and stand alone “prequels”.

Prequels isnt the best word for some of these though. I guess just stand alone movies of prior events? I don’t think all of them will lead directly into a saga film like rogue One did.

It was silly in a way that I appreciated. A droid controlling a big, weaponized machine was fun and something I'm surprised hasn't happened sooner. That and some of the comedic beats are things I get not being everyone's cup of tea, but they appealed to my sensibilities.

    Holy shit.

Like, you read your posts right? You're saying all of this stuff can be done in any era. JUST AS LONG AS IT'S NOT THAT SPECIFIC ONE. This is not a well formed opinion.

You do realize if they made a movie that took place in the era of KOTOR that it wouldn't actually be KOTOR right? It could take place in the exact same year that KOTOR happens and it wouldn't matter because KOTOR isn't cannon. I'm just trying to understand what it is about previous, dejected lore that makes you so against a Star Wars movie that overwrites that. Looking for something other than "IDONTWANNA".

I think I’m still undecided on BB-8 for this film. I loved him in TFA, but they may have taken it too far in a few places here. It’s all minor actions for the most part, so I haven’t given it as much thought.

    It’s a personal preference.

As I said above somewhere, if they make a good movie in that era, that can change my mind. I’m open to that.

But if was up to me? I’m not interested in that.

Heh... 90% is probably higher than I would personally go. But I agreed with his point, even if it was exaggerated. There is a LOT of bad EU stuff. And to be fair, both in books that went back and books that went beyond the OT.

I spent 7 days last fall on the Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula. Skellig Michael and the Great Blaskets. A lot of those shots brought back some amazing memories. A truly gorgeous land. Glad I got to visit before the movie hit. Believe they had wrapped just before we arrived.

I think they had their wrap party at Foxy Johns in Dingle. Which is a hardware store that also doubles as a pub.

I mean how do we quantify the EU into percentages, lol. I'm fine with all ABY EU being eliminated. As for BBY, the smart thing is to take all the good material and work them into the canon, which is kinda what they've been doing.

I'm kinda with Greg on less prequels more future installments, but as a big fan of Rogue One I'd really love something along the lines of Shadows of the Empire done with similar care. That interests me sooo much more than young Han Solo or Obi Wan.

They have been working in stuff from both eras. Love what they have done with Rebels in that regard.

Holy crap, this is pretty much the best distillation of why George lucked into creating a billion-dollar entertainment franchise in spite of himself that I’ve ever seen.

Since I always obsess over the details I don't love in movies, I've been thinking a lot about how I would fix the Canto Bight sequence. I don't hate it, it just doesn't quite meet the quality of everything happening around it. But it definitely introduced some more interesting ideas with regards to war profiteering that I would have liked for them to dive into deeper. Anyway, here's what I've got:

It starts the same for the most part (Finn walking around it in awe then Rose explaining why these people are awful). But instead of getting tattled on by some dude upset about parking, they identify the slicer and approach his table. There's a quick little gambling sequence with some fun dialogue (Finn pretending to know how to gamble would be entertaining in a similar way to his "I am with the resistance" line when he meets Rey) and they try and convince him to help them out. Turns out the slicer is deep in the First Order's pockets and has them arrested and thrown in jail. This gives us more of a reason to dislike the people of this world. Additionally, the slicer could alert the First Order, specifically Captain Phasma who comes to the planet to get revenge on Finn. In Jail, they meet DJ, that sequence goes roughly the same, but now Phasma is the one chasing them as they escape the jail. They hide space horse stables and they set the horses free, but instead of riding them they just set them loose as a distraction while they find a ship to steal. That way we can still get the creatures destroying the casino (which i enjoyed) without them actually riding around on them (didn't like so much). The space horses also destroy Phasma’s ship, which would really piss her off and set up some extra tension for their confrontation abroad the Supremacy.

Again, I like the Canto Bight sequence more than most. I think some tweaks would have made it a little more interesting.

I'll take a Ewan led Disney sing-a-long Obi Wan movie cause I love Moulin Rouge.

I just think you have to limit what hes capable of doing. The intro plugging the sparks and having 20 arms was fine. Shooting coins like a machine gun and actually being able to blow smoke and being able to tie up guards was too much for me.

I for one am so excited about obi-wan. Ewan deserves to be Obi-wan again and they can add to the lore a lot if they go into the Force Ghost ability. It will hopefully be a smaller budget, more introspective, more dramatic film that Star Wars has never seen.
