    Least condescending tone ever: Why?

I’ll watch it again because it’s Star Wars. But I won’t pay to go see it again.

I love being told how I don’t understand the writing like I don’t have a degree and two minors specifically in writing and understanding writing. Or written two books. Or read over 700 books. Or watched over 500 movies.

Yes. My faculties of understanding the bludgeoningly obvious plot of Star Wars are totally nonexistent.

It was incredibly entertaining and nostalgic and wonderful and reductive. But I love TFA and did not even really half like this.

Lol right? I’m not even bothering to go in the movie thread, I was hoping someone would have a civil conversation with me about it, but if you question the movie in there you get thrown to the wolves it seems. I went in with kind of zero expectations and it still managed to walk a pretty straight line in form if the narrative

Yeah, without spoiling anything and depending on what you liked about TFA, you may sing a different tune.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I felt like it was a good change of pace. They flipped so many things that people weren’t expecting. It felt different than any of the ones before it, and took risks I’ve been hoping the series would take. Adam Driver was absolutely incredible in it, and became the villain I was hoping he would be. The character development of everyone in the movie was fantastic to me, especially Kylo and Finn as well. Some of the humor was a bit too much, the opening was kind of annoying but besides that there really wasn’t much I disliked.

Lmao this is definitely what it feels like. Honestly, I’m glad other people are enjoying it. I just hope they truly are and aren’t just telling themselves that due to the franchise/new car smell if that makes sense. I hope people find something authentic to like there

And @Garrett L., I totally get your criticisms and understand why it worked for some and not others. People are quick to jump down your throat because you didn’t like it as much as them, and I’m definitely not going to do that over a movie haha

interesting. Pacing was a huge complaint of mine. I can’t/don’t buy that Rey’s storyline took place in the same ~18 hours of the rest of the movie until they combined at the end. It really bothers me haha. I do like what they did with Kylo.

I definitely agree that the timing with Rey/Luke was odd, it definitely seemed like they were there for much longer than 18 hours.
The pacing didn’t bother me too much, I see why some have issues with it. I know the Finn/Rose storyline didn’t go over well with a lot, but I think it was necessary to make Finn see why the Resistance is important and not just something he can run and hide from. That and I like the seeds being planted for something maybe in the next movie with him finding out that they’re supplying both sides with weapons. I hope they do something with that information.

I was gonna buy an electric hair dryer, but I don't have electric hair.

I was gonna buy an electric pencil sharpener, but I don't have any electric pencils.

I was gonna buy an electric food mixer, but I don't have any electric food.

Yeah, if anything, at least we have zero idea what’s happening next. Which is a fantastic way to go into the next installment of a series. I just really don’t like the vehicle we were given to get there.

I also realized I wanted Rey to switch sides as soon as she didn’t just to see what would happen.

It's hard to say where I'd place it in the series, but I loved it. Possibly the best directed Star Wars movie, and some of the plot directions it takes are things I would never see coming. It has some flaws but was incredibly enjoyable and I'm not sure why this is so divisive (not dismissing others criticisms, just seems like a strangely mixed reaction from fans overall)
