Right? honestly the term is meaningless since every group who claims it seems to have a different idea of what "emo" actually is

 

It changes so much. Idk if they've settled on a definition or if it's still just a catch all term

 

Yeah. I supported this thread when it was first created but it really has continued to be not a good thread, and it seems to do more harm than good.

 

What has been considered emo in the 2000s - present is so much different than what was considered emo in the 80s and 90s.

 

Whatever way it shouldn't go is probably the way it'll go.

 

I think it's okay to flesh out arguments in here. Especially if they remain fairly civil. It's okay to want to talk about the opinions posted cause some may bring up good discussion.
That's my unpopular opinion.

People call him out for cultural appropriation bc of the headdress he wears. He doesn't care though.

 

Holy fuck, what the hell? Is homeboy trying to be a new FF villain? Beyond that, white people in general needs to stop the whole headdress thing. It's bad enough that your race basically wiped out Native Americans as a visible entity in America, stop stealing parts of their culture to look cool.

I like emo and screamo. I refuse to feel like I have to come up with new names for the genres I enjoy because most people are ignorant. It's not my fault no one knows what those genres actually are. If they think emo is MCR and screamo is Black Veil Brides or Of Mice and Men I will explain how wrong they are. Oh and Daisy is Brand New's best album.

 

Not only is country my favorite genre, but I like a lot of the mainstream country stuff you hear on the radio. Listening to the new Keith Urban album right now and enjoying it.

 

I still think Aiden was a cool band with some really good songs.

 

Apparently people lose their minds when it comes to brand new. I should've known better.

Eh, living in new York, hipster is equivalent to entitled white people who, thanks to their well off parents, gentrify and destroy traditionally blue collar immigrant neighborhoods. The music and dressing poor stuff is a minor thing.

On that note, the vinyl craze is weird to me. I have friends who collect it and I get that but to claim the sound is better...that's just not true.

 

I don't think anyone would've cared at all had you said "I don't like Brand New," it was just weird to say that the world would be better had they never existed. I can't imagine saying that about any band except, like, Lostprophets or Falling in Reverse.

Agreed that TAYF is better than YFW.

 

TAYF and YFW are similarly atrocious albums, at least Brand New made something interesting after that

well, it doesn't really "hold up" for me considering i didn't know it existed until probably 2011 and have 0 personal attachment to it
