See, I don't necessarily think this is the case. First Carrie died after the film was basically done, so I don't know how much they changed because of that but it doesn't look like much. Second, Rian had to have been pretty much set with where he wanted this story to go by the time TFA was out in theaters and people began speculating, so I'm not sure how much his original pitch changed just to spite the fans. I don't think he set out to spite anyone either, I just personally think that people got way too far ahead of themselves with speculating about things like Snoke's origins, and Rey's parents, and a Luke vs. Snoke showdown, etc.

Their moment at the end seemed super random if they weren’t going to do something with them.

I too got the impression that the entire thing with Poe was him doing too much when shit was already well handled. Trust the Process Poe. Trust the Process.

I'm not forgetting anything. Rey and Kylo battle guards with light sabers, yeah. But there's no battle between two people using lightsaber against each other

I'm all in on Rey, though. She's the hero I want.

Also, I didn’t buy the scene where Poe is super happy to see bb-8. Something about it felt forced. It doesn’t seem to be as genuine a relationship as Luke and R2, even though they’re still pushing it. But I could be biased just cause to me, Poe still doesn’t feel like a main character, he seems to just kinda be there, existing, being Poe. Same with Finn, even though I like Finn a lot more.

Rey and Kylo are fascinating to me right now.

I disagree. It didnt feel anything like Holdo from the book. I was expecting her to be weird and her making weird astrology comments or something. I get the book was when she was a kid, but her personality was too different for me. And Laura said they gave her no insight to the character (meaning nothing from the book) that I think was a let down.
This was my favorite theme of the movie I get many people have problems with the plot holes and certain arcs being kind of meaningless or even more detrimental. Holdo not telling Poe. Finn and Rose basically trying so hard to save people that ended up almost ending the resistance.

But lets be real in life, not everything makes sense. Usually our plans never work out the way we want them to. Not everything in life is perfectly executed and wrapped in a bow. It wouldve been more unrealistic and less relatable if they ended up executing their plan perfectly to inflitrate Snokes ship and somehow not get caught, turn off that hyperdrive tracker, and they get away.

There was a lot of fucking up and mistakes by Finn and Rose. By Poe. By Holdo. All of their plans failed but they all had their moment to show who they truly are despite all the failure.

I do agree the execution of that message and those situation was somewhat sloppy, but it was powerful for me.

I think thats the reason I dont mind. It made sense, it just looked weird. Having Luke and Leia together for one last time and I cried when he was talking about Han and saying the dead never really leave us and kissing her forehead basically talking about Carrie as well. It was so beautiful and surprised nobody else has mentioned it yet. (at least I think.

Love this take on Finn. In a movie where his adventure was the weakest, his character arc was very strong. In TFA he came back for Rey and Rey alone, but in this he actually stopped running away from his problem and be able to die for something bigger than himself.

They have a very similar type of meeting in the novelization for TFA.

And they were in the same room when BB-8 and R2 put the map together.

They didn’t need to add that moment in, so I’m interested to see if that goes somewhere.

For whatever reason, I'm not into this. But hey, we will have to see how their relationship develops.

The more I think about this film, the more I realize how much was accomplished:

Finn becomes the man he is destined to be
The relationship between Kylo and Rey just became 100 times more fascinating. It's not just good vs. bad now. It's more than that.
The past has officially been retired. Yes, we will I'm sure still see remnants and relics of the original films, but this is very much the Rey, Poe, Finn, BB-8 Story.
Casino world was just cool. Don't @me on it.
There's a bunch more, but those are what really stood out to me.

My friends werent huge fans which bummed me out but I get it. They definitely loved a lot but also are notorious for basically looking at a movie like CinemaSins and trying to find every hole and inconsistency which annoys me sometimes. they also found something I havent seen mentioned yet.

When Holdo rams the ship into Snokes, Rose, Finn, and everybody were in the hanger, then everybody is obliterated but those two. They are the only ones on the ground and then out of the smoke you see Phasma and a bunch of soldiers come out of the fire far away. That didnt make sense.

yeah that scene was weirdly set up but I was fine with it, really enjoyed their battle and wish we got more from phasma, who i assume now is defn dead.

Agree with all your thoughts on Phasma. I get she was an afterthought in TFA and her design was initially for Kylo, but thats probably my biggest disappointment with this new trilogy so far. You had Gwendolyn Christie and a great concept. You gave her an amazing origin story with her own book, and her total screen time and impact was basically nothing. Now that Im thinking about it she really is the Boba Fett for this trilogy and her death was just about as bad. uggghh

Also... I never looked at my phone once for time. So, when Luke stepped out from the Craig base, I was worried for a moment it would end right there and then on a massive cliffhanger. I’m so glad it didn’t.

I wish JJ wouldve pulled a Rian Johnson when he told JJ to put R2D2 on the Falcon and told him to keep Phasma alive for the next movie

between snoke and phasma both biting the dust, do you think theyll introduce a new baddie for IX? or will kylo take over as ultimate villain? I just dont look at Hux as a worthy villain at all. He's so easily smacked around.
